i am thinking of upgradng subs. my infinity refernce 1220 is starting to loose its edge. granted it did sound really good, but now i think the vioce coils is going on it, an it has some other issues.

so from what i have heard (think i talked bout this in another thread) is that the Alpine type R is the way to go. anyone have/had one of these before? thoughts?

    BTW: i have 700W rms @ 2ohms and a 1.5cubic foot enclosure.

    is it sealed or ported?
if ported i'd sugest you listen to an mtx 12" 55driver. save $50 and you could'nt hear the diffrence. (you'd have to run this one at 4 ohm. rms 300watts)
if sealed yeah for the $$ you cant beat the alpine r's. although imo 1.5cf is a little big for a sealed 12" dvc

its a plain old sealed box. although it isnt so plain, the thing is stronger then steel hehehe.

currently i have the box filled up decently w/ fiber fill. so the although the dimensions say its 1.5CF theres probly only 1 CF of air in there.

I almost bought an alpine type r untlil I went to m&m car audio in savage. They have a brand called Image Dynamics and I have one 12 sealed and it sounds amazing. I think its much better than the type r.

Sure, if you want to spend over $300 for 1800 watts.

And if you're not going to get the $300 one their wattage ratings are all under 1000 peak.

from whati have gathered the Type r offers best bang for the buck. so maybe the image one is better, but when i can find type rs for alot cheaper, i think the tpe should be good neough

I like image because of the sound quality, yea it may not be the loudest thing out there, but the sound quality more than made up for loudness. I'm not saying its not loud cause it is but bang for buck, you are probably best off w/ the type R.

i had the type R with a kenwood 800 watt max (450 RMS) and it was perfect. Plenty loud, but not crapy sound quality. If you wanna know how loud it was...well i got a few sound violation warnings, and that wasnt even at a loud volume...it hits

FYI..adding fiber fill increases the effective volume of the box. 1.5 ft^3 plus fill is actually >1.5......

thats wierd i would have figured since you are putting something in there, you would then be removing air from the inside thus less volume.

yar i may have to just biuld a new box when i get a type r

I've got a 12" type r running off an alpine MRD-500 and definately like it. Subs depend on the type of music you most often listen to also. If you only listen to hip-hop or other very bass intensive music then you might want something that hits a little more on the low end, but if you mix it up the R will be more than sufficient. IMO
