    car is an 05lgtwagon limited
so the 16x6.5 rims almost fit my car. i have to shave off no more that 2/16" of the brake caliper and they will fit. would u shave the brake caliper or spend money on 17" snow tires? i can get 4steelies and winter tire for same price as 17"snows with one stockrim(one rim is bent)
was also told that alloy 16in rim of an wrx will fit

It sounds like the 16x6.5's you are trying to use have an improper offset, I don't see why a set of 16's wouldn't work on a Legacy GT. The brakes they use shouldn't be that much larger than normal WRX 2 pots. I'm not exactly sure on that, but I don't remember the Legacy GT requiring 17" wheels. What wheels are you trying to put on there, what is the offset of the wheel?

The calipers are pretty dang huge in comparison to WRX 2-pots. I'm pretty sure that even the 2.5RS 16x7's don't fit, and they clear the WRX 4-pots.

Not sure on those, I don't know what WRX steelies have for an offset. But I'm guessing the offset isn't going to work. You could probably pull it off with 16x7 wheels if you can find a set, otherwise, I'd grab a set of 17's. Do you already have winter tires? If not, I'd see about a package deal on Tirerack or Craigslist/ebay some wheels for cheap.

The rotor diameter is right in between a WRX with the 4/2 brakes and the STI.

So they are a pretty large rotor on those. I wouldn't personally shave the brake stuff... I would think it is the size it is for a reason.

    That's just me tho.

I would think a set of 16x7 RS wheels would work, they're 16x7 and 55 offset. Otherwise, you may be better off just looking for a set of 17s. There are plenty of cheaper sets around. Have you done any searching on Nasioc or LGT to see if anyone else is running 16s on a GT?

I got a solution for your problem!

It sounds to me (IMHO) like you need some Stock Wrx Alloys!
Now, lucky for you, there is a guy with an almost new stock set in your area.

I think his cal sign is "EchoWrx", Here's the link :

He might even throw a few extra parts in the deal if yer ask.

^ yea those definitely wont work... (from what i have heard)

Last i heard was that 16s didn't fit LGTs period.

    I'd check out www.legacygt.com

Yet again, those really aren't what he's looking for. They DEFINITELY won't fit if steelies (that are about 1/3 as thick as the aluminum ones you're whoring) won't fit.

I'm with Shibbers on this. Removing metal from a brake caliper sounds like a bad idea.

    They are sort of important...

i have done it on other cars. the part i would be shaving in not part of the bracket slides, or the piston. so grinding down no more 1/8" is not all that bad

Yea the LGT brake calipers are huge. If you were to grind them down, you'd introduce some major heat fatigue. Also remember, steel wheels are very flexible and just by hitting a large bump or cornering hard, they will probably flex and grind on the calipers anyway. You'd have to triple the amount you are taking off by grinding, I wouldn't recommend it. Plus it'd be hard to resell the car with calipers like that.

You'd be better off with 10mm spacers or different wheels altogether.

Grinding 1/8" off a brake caliper is very bad. When steel gets hot (like it does in a brake caliper) the strength goes down. Also- the most highly loaded part of the caliper is the outside surface- the same part you would be grinding off.

Please don't grind off any of your brake caliper. Buy the correct size wheels for your safety and mine.

I would vote against shaving a caliper as well, the amount of material there is there for a reason. That, and why wouldn't you sell the wheels you have and pick up something that is the right size?

What part of "Those rims will NOT work" did you miss the first time?
