    Will the stock clutch be ok with an 18G or should I replace it right away. Also whats would you replace it with? Would you do the flywheel too?

    Thanks

    Just my opinion here...

    I'd keep the clutch as it is... cheaper than replacing the tranny which would probably go from drivetrain shock from a stouter clutch if you plan on doing many launches

    If you change out the weak gearset, I think you'd be ok with a bigger clutch. With a bigger turnbo, I wouldn't count on stock clutch life for very long. You might as well go for a lighter flywheel while your at it.

    walbro pump, txs oldschool unichip,
    gfb pullies, m2 uppipe,
    txs catless to blitz nurspec rear section,

    wrx upgrade path:

    turbo --> clutch --> tires --> tranny.

    It has been done well over 100 times.

    One thing to keep in mind after the turbo install is to see if you can get some datalogging going to see what your injector duty cycle sits at. There's different opinions, but generally if your injectors are active 90 percent or higher then you should think about upgrading your fuel system. Tari has free datalogging software that you can hook up with an existing cobb cable into a laptop.

    A 18g will max out the stock injectors. Hell, the stock turbo will max out the stock injectors. With my 18g my 630's run about 88-89 idc at 21-22psi.

    you gonna get the tranny case as well or just the gearings without the final drive and install them in your old tranny case?

    Or if you really want to improve the weaknesses of the car

    tires --> suspension --> turbo --> clutch --> tranny

    Not really because most of the people that blow there car up think like this:
    -Make 300+whp
    -Clutch is slipping, get a 3 puck that cant slip
    -oh noes, the tires are spinning on hard launches the awd advantage is missing
    -buy some hoosier slicks
    -nothing left to flex except the tranny..

    oh crap I am following that path too :shock:

    :oops: It's true.

    I've never floored my car.. ever. I actually bought a bigger turbo because the lag would keep me out of trouble. :?

    in a 5 speed i would go with the 16g before the 18g. Pulls just as hard uptop and has a bit quicker spool.

    Yeah, but the 18g has a bigger number. 18>16. Always choose the one that has the biggest number for a name. AWDL is gonna own all of us with his VF54 turbo.

    If you ask any of the DSM guys they will always tell you the 18g spools like a 20g, pulls like a 16g. Using that theory just buy a green.

    Green > 18 > 16. Is this the 'New Math' that Charlie Brown was always talking about?

    I put the car in storage last weekend. Mine is holding about 22psi to redline and seems to pull pretty well. Just make sure you have an intake/inlet otherwise it sucks too much. Learned that the hard way :roll:

    It runs about the same boost as Russ' 18g and seems to be happy. The efficiency range is about 19psi on pump is what Jerry told me.

    F***ing right! I'm in shock people would even consider an 18G? All I ever hear, as you said above, "18G: Lag of 20G with the power of a 16G"
