I'm new to the Subaru world and recently bought a 1992 SVX LS-L and
    My transmission is slipping
2nd to 3rd and I believe 4th to Over drive.
I'm considering to rebuild or or put in a used tranny.

Thinking maybe rebuild myself, though it would be my first rebuild or I would install an Automatic or possibly a Manual (used) transmission?

Does anyone have any advice on the most economical (Pros/Cons) way to go about my repair or replacement?

PS; I have also noticed that the rear wheels don't seem to be working... it seems to be FWD mode?

Thanks very much for your time!

Automatic rebuilds are not something for the do-it-yourselfer. The knowledge required in diagnosing the subtleties in auto trans issues is not something the average home wrench has.

A full rebuild is usually over $600 in parts, plus labor. Count on ten hours of labor for an experienced transmission tech. With your lack of 4wd, the transfer clutch is most likely toast, possibly due to a bad Duty C solenoid.

It all depends on what is found when someone gets in there. Sometimes the pump needs to be replaced which adds cost. With a roasted transfer clutch, the cage may be suspect too.

Is there anyone interested in a Transmission rebuild trade for Body/Paint Repair? I have over 25 years experience in the Autobody field.

make a wtb post, someone should have a transmission that you could just swap instead of rebuilding it.
