ok, this "racing" was done on a closed course with trained professionals, driving our cars. i own a bone stock 5 speed 1998 DOHC legacy 2.5GT with a k&n filter. thats it. me friend owns a (no engine work) bone stock 1997 a4 1.8T also a manual except a k&n filter, short throw, 15" winter tires, suspension and maybe some other stuff. but as for the engine its all stock. our friends (trained professionals) decided to race our cars last night. they did a 40 roll and from a dig. after 3 honks they were off and the 2.5GT kept up with the A4 bobbing the noses infront of one another until about 80mph then the GT started to pull on the a4 quite considerably before having to slow due to light traffic. later talking to them the man driving the A4 said he was just joking about the 40 roll but when the man driving the GT looked over at him during the midst of the "race" he looked really serious and you could hear the turbo spooling very much so. after that was done we *cough* they decided to go from a dig. the man driving my car (GT) launched at 3700 and popped the clutch. the man in the A4 has a brand new clutch and apparently didnt know how to launch with his new clutch so he got a bad launch. the GT launched on the A4 by about a car and a half right off the bat and the whole time it stayed like that until we both decided to give up. so who really won and could a bone stock 98 GT really keep up with a lightly modded A4? or was he correct about f*ing with me...
haha, light traffic on a closed circuit, hmmmm. I guess its slow cars on the track. But yeah a4s are reallly heavy and not that fast. I mean that 1.8 goes into gti's. All that leather, heated seats and chunky steering wheel makes it heavier. But I still like them.
yeah my auto rs beat a manual 1.8t with turbo back exhaust // there not that fast.. really comfortable tho
Quattro 1.8T stock is, as people mentioned a big heavy pig. I think thats the 150hp model? Needs a chip to move out of its own way. Needs a K04 to be anything near fast. Big turbo, they can be fast though. /1.8t can nevar lose! though
yea i forgot to mention a turbo back exhaust too. still i was suprised because i tought my car was alot slower i mean it still is but...less slow
A chip and exhaust will give the 170hp version (which is basically the same as the 150hp version exvcept for tuning) ~170whp on a manual FWD. The 150hp might make a touch less and the drivetrain's lossier. Maybe 160-150 wheel. >3300lbs, generally much more optioned up. They're only fast when you get rid of the K03
the 1.8t is a joke. unless you put lots and lots of wasted money into it, its not going to be fast. 1.8t jettas and a4s usually think they are oh so cool cuz of the turbo in their engine but they are so heavy and their gearing are FTL. no acceleration. unless its a s4 or better...audi's arent that cool. they look sick though
yea some of them look sick but subarus look better. i mean com'mon an sti or an s4? wrx or a 2.0T a4 a tribeca or a Q7 or whatever there suv is called. plus our awd is better.
Our AWD is only better in higher models with rear LSD. I'd rather have torsen than the VSLD. Unfortunatly, nearly all quattro models have open diffs front and rear, which sucks. And I'd much, much rather have an audi than the new Impreza anything, the old Tribeca, or 08+ legacy based purely on looks.
you are gonna beat the piss out my old car!! haha.. I am sad now. I dunno man, tough call, but I seriously wouldn't launch that beast unless you wanna have to replace that clutch again, as well as the transmission. Your call now obviously, but she has high miles. I did the clutch in it about a year and a half ago. racing a car that slow just seems pointless unless you modify it.
