Can someone give me a link if there is tool to hold the the driver side cams in place while installing a the new belt(timing)? I did this job on an 02 wrx 2.0 and they kept wanting to wonder. I’m assuming it’s a similar job. Thanks in advance

Is it a DOHC motor like the WRX 2.0? If so, I can show you the tool I use.

    Company23 camlock tools:

There are generic versions of both on amazon as well.

Alternatively, the factory tool (and the knockoffs) go around the cam gears rather than inserting into the bolts.

Pull the tensioner pin before releasing the camlock tool to keep the belt from skipping a tooth after getting it lined up (adding spring clamps at the pulleys helps too).

It's SOHC and it's way easier to do than on the DOHC WRX you worked on previously. You don't need any special cam hold tools

...that's assuming you're not working on a 22B that was equipped with an EJ22G DOHC motor. I'm guessing not :D

Perfect! The wrx wasn’t that hard just made me super nervous when they kept trying to move on me. I haven’t dealt with many Subaru’s. I’m usually a glutton for punishment and run Audi’s.

Personally I always check with Josh Nahm at importimageracing first. He's been sponsoring this forum for about 12 years and always has some sort of discount/combo deal/ price match (he'll actually beat any price you send him) available.

Locally, I check with Jesse at JM auto.

    After that, amazon.
