is there a factory harness for the front door tweeters? there is a place to mount the tweeters in the 04 sti. but is there a harness for these tweeters? or do i have to get a crossover and use the harness for the front lower door speakers?
Would it be like my '02 Forester? Or is the door a bit different from the STI? The harness is a pretty basic piece of metal on my Forester, pretty much a flat piece of aluminum with a z bend just to offset the height between the two side screws, the tweeter just screws on the center of the plate. The plate's only a half inch wide, a couple inches long, and 1/16" thick, if that. You could make it yourself. Otherwise, there's not much more to it, short maybe the plastic screw mounts in the door, again nothing special. Is your car different than that? Also, for quality of sound, I'd actually suggest mounting the tweeter next to the woofer down at the bottom of the door. I hated the tweeters in the stock position. There were both overpowering and out of phase as they were closer to you. I just used the same mount(metal strip with a offset bend in it) to attack the tweeter by the woofer. I just screwed the tweeter to one end and used one of the stock 3 woofer mount screws at the other end(through woofer mount, through end of tweeter mount, and into door panel). It sounds better next to the woofer. The frequency range is in sync and the tweeter isn't so overpowering. Another option would be the A-pilar by the mirror. My Forester just has a plactic cover there that can be pulled off. You could mount a tweeter here to raise the sound stage and still keep the tweeter a somewhat good(better) distance from your ear to better keep the sound frequency range in sync.
the wires are attached right there, you need to get a bracket, sti ships w/none. i'd advise running your own wires. it's a pain in the ass, but when you get an amp, it makes way more sense... run one 4 wire loom in, or two sets of standard wire... just plan on each side taking 2 hours.... its a ****ing pain in the ass.... i recomend using pam to lube up the rubber passthrough. check out iap performance, they have kits for the 04's.. /cheers
