I own a 06 sti and im slightly dabbling with the idea of trading for an 07 spec b.....but never have driven one...
    so...
what will i be giving up
would it be worth it for a straight up trade
is performance dramatically less...even with an accessport?
    which would you rather drive
any input from those that have driven both???

You are giving up a PURE MONSTER vs A Potential Monster with Luxury

The Spec B isn't worth the extra cost over a 2.5GT. I'd rather drive LGT for daily use, the STI for fun. For me it would depend on what my commute was like.

Trade in the STI, spend the cost difference between that and the Spec B, end up with something much better than a Spec B.

A stock turbo STi will be faster in a straight line than a stock turbo Spec-B. The STi has a slightly larger turbo and weighs less.

I'd rather have the Leggy -- however, I'd just get an LGT and mod that with the money saved vs the Spec. B.

if its what you want then get it. I don't think you should worry about speed/better when its what you would prefer to drive everyday.

Why don't you go drive a 08 SpecB? They are all the same. I personally like the Legacy's size and its looks. I've never driven an STi before, but I'm sure its a bit faster then the SpecB. Either way, keep it or trade it. You'll still be a happy camper.

Yup, given the same mods and similar tuning, the STi will be a bit faster.

ok, how old are you? in your late 20's maybe wanting to get out of the "fast and furious sports car" phase because if you are id get the spec B, you'd have the name not only that but you would also have the luxury and the power to beat almost any car on the road (well you know what i mean) but still look badass baller when you pull up to meetings and still get all the women you want.

you should keep in mind that the Spec B 6 speed does not have DCCD. So you would be giving that up. From a stock stand point the STi will out handle the legacy hands down. the main issue I have heard (from reviews) of the new legacy GTs are that the suspension is too soft. Granted the Spec B has the Bilstien :)drool:) suspension and is most likely a different story. It all comes down to how much sportyness you want to trade in for luxury.

Test drive a Spec B and a LGT and see what you think. Remember theres no little wing to put your SN on the Spec B, lol.

Will has no idea what he wants. It doesn't matter what car he gets becuase he'll get a different one two months later.

That's too many gears for a turbocharged motor. You're better off with the 5eat with the shift buttons on the wheel that the regular LGT has. I think there was another thread about this this week. Bikerboy's car is hawt, IMHO. There's nothing wrong with trying to duplicate that.

Personally, I think the spec B is a bit too soft as well for suspenion, but if you don't want to mucka round with suspension its the way to go.
The aluminum controls arms are nice as well, as is the interor. The 6-speed is some personal choice, but I do think its a bit better feeling than the 5mt in the GT. Also, you get proper summer tires (re050A, which are decent) rather than RE92s.

So the brakes are not as good, the suspension is going to be alot softer, the TIRES WILL SUCK, and you loose the dccd in the tranny. The lgt is more of a sleeper sports car, not a true sports car.

The tires on the spec B are pretty decent.
The brakes are not that bad when mated with proper pads, but certainly no STI.
Suspension is soft. Do not confuse this with bad handling. However, its defenitly no STI on this count.
And yeah, its not a sports car of any time.

The brakes on the legacys arnt that bad. they are only like 1/4" smaller than the brembos, rotor wise. with some good pads it will stop pretty dang good.

The STi isn't that much of a sports car, either.......

    Sports car = z06, Elise/Exige, 911, etc.

    Yup, though they're 2 pots.
They're more than enough to overcome any tires that'll fit on the car.

There is no DCCD however it does have SI-Drive which is going to replace the DCCD in the STi for MY08.

    Spec B doesn't have DCCD... Even though it's a 6M/T.

So what did you decide? I have driven both and they are both very nice...I would go with the spec b, only becuase it has the 6 speed, otherwise I would just get the lgt with the 5eat. Which is still fun to drive. I would go drive both and then decide. Or just get the spec b...

Well in my brother inlaw's case he started with an 04 STI for a few years. Than decided it was too much for him, rides to rough he said and that he was ready to get into something softer. So he traded it for a 07 Spec B. That lasted for a year, he started complaining about how it lacks power and was too soft and it wasn't any fun around the twisties. So currently he has a 08 STI after trading in the Spec B. I have drive both as well and I really dont car for either one, because I will get to drive his. LOL

There are both fine cars, to find your true calling you must make the trip to MT Everest.

    -Enjoy!
