Saturday, November 15th, 2008. I was in Big Sky, Montana for a party on Friday night, spent the night there and awoke at appoximately 9:15 am and headed out to trailhead of Beehive Basin. After getting positive snowpack field reports from two separate individuals, felt safe in snowshoeing with my snowboard in tow for some tree'd North-facing lines near the headwall of the drainage.

11:30 am - arrived at the foot of the tree'd Northface slopes and 'shoe'ed up to the top. Snow pit proved 18" of bomber base with 6" powder upper so board strapped, line photo snapped and...

First turns of 2008/09 winter are made and with excellent results. Good, fresh, consistent snow and quality first of the season pitch.

I miss snowboarding! I grew up in AK, and ski trips were weekly field trips in the winter. They'd give us every friday off of school, as long as we went to the ski area and did "physical education", and took lessons in the mornings....something about saving the school money

I didnt take these pictures, mostly because I left AK when I was 12 :(. Havent boarded since I left Montana when I was 13...I messed my knee up pretty bad at Big Sky.

The last picture of the 4 is what it currently looks like. Being in the southern part of AK, there still isnt much for snow. I believe 0 at the base and 30 at the top. I havent talked to any of my buddies that still live up there yet this season...I'm thinking about heading back one of these days for old times sake.

Good, at least now there's some hatin' goin' on. That'll build stoke. Even if the stoke is for t3h gh3y railzzz (and I do mean zzz as in snooze) at that garbage pile they call a ski resort in Mpls.

I attended a quick avalanche seminar tonight for a quick brush up. Two weeks from now I'll be attending a Level I course. Two evenings in the classroom and one day in the field. I took this course in 2005 but need to brush up again after my two winter hiatus from the mountains.

Who's got trips planned this year? I have to buddies who are currently failing at specifying dates they'd like to come visit (both of whom are members of this forum).

yeah, the resorts suck around here...that's for sure. But keep the smack talk at bay and show us some clean lines with photos...anything less is FAIL.

And make sure you take a course on the demons in the tree wells....they may suck you in and never spit you out:eek3:......:p

    watch out!!

Is it okay to post pictures from 1999 on the 2008/2009 snowboarding thread?

well, looks like we're already planning our next trip...

This year we're going to spend 90% of our time in the backcountry earning our turns and probably only visit a resort or two. :yumyum:

they sure are nice for the backcountry. unless you have a snowmobile the split board IS the far superior way to travel versus anything else.
