'Tis the season to give. And who better to give to than children. Every year the United States Marine Corps collects new toys in box from the community to give to needy children during the holidays. This year, MNSOC will be bringing toys to Toys For Tots to help make a few kids' holidays brighter.

How does it work? Well, purchase a new, unopened toy for a child (or two or three or....) Bring it with you to donate. This year, we will be meeting as a group at the Menards on University on December 20th at 10am. Bring your unopened toy and your Subaru and meet us there. We will caravan from Menards to the Kare11 Toys For Tots Tent in Golden Valley where we will drop off our toys as a group.

    http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=2...83947&sspn=0.011023,0.027723&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=13

Bring your cleaned up Subaru and toy, and get a picture with the Toys for Tots banner and the US Marines at the Kare11 tent.

We have been informed that the toys that are in short supply are usually toys for 10+ year old girls. But any toy will be great and make some kid very very happy.

What: 2008 MNSOC Toys for Tots Drive and Cruise
    When: December 20th, 2008 @ 10am CST
Where: Menards on University (see map above) and then caravan to Golden Valley to drop off the toys at the Kare11 tent
What to bring: One or more unopened new toys.

We hope to have a great turn out. Go get some new toys and make a kid's holiday bright this year.

    Sincerely,

    Jason Lutz
    President
    Minnesota Subie Owner's Club

Also, please don't wrap them. They will be wrapped by volunteers @ TFT.

Yep, good point. Just bring toys, this is super easy to do, and it really brings the happiness to children.

I think I should be able to make this. You guys will be ending up right across the street from my place. Depending on how many people we have, we should caravan over to Fat Nat's Eggs for some delicious breakfast goodness.

    PLEASE NOTE:

I spoke with the man running the show this year and he told me that they always run out of gifts for girls ages 10-15, so if you have not yet purchased one, keep that in mind.

And, of course, a hot wheels or 9.

This is an open event. This is just an event thought up, organized, sponsored, and run by MNSOC members.

This isn't about being a part of MNSOC so much as it is about providing a fun and easy way to be generous and donate to a good cause.

So let's get as many toys together as we can and make a fun morning out of this!

Hey rochester folks, i have no problems driving down and picking up your toys for this if nobody can make it up here. I know what my work schedule is like a week before - and friday nights are usually pretty open. FE: Next friday, i don't work at all.

IF you all can meet up and get a group of toys together at one person's house, i can come get them.

As soon as we had the date and time put together, I sent another E-mail to 1stSgt Alfonso Via to let him know about it, here is what he replied:

    Ted,
The date and time sound good. The evenings are extremely busy at KARE11
and we can devote more time to your group during the day. Ill be out that
way and we can take some photos together. I look forward to meeting you and
seeing your card club! GySgt David D1ckens is the point of contact at the
tent and Ive CC'd him on this email as well. Call me if you have any
    questions at all.

Well, Aric and I work the day of the toy drive. But we can collect everybodies toys here in the Rochester Area! And Steph you can pick them up at our place. Just about everyone in the Roch area knows where we live/work.
We are always home Friday nights! Its our "ghost show night"

*edit, reading owns me. I read the first page and answered my own question....DOH!*

Any (non Hannah Montana) suggestions for this?

Hairpins and such, jewelery, CD's, Highschool Musical paraphernalia, electronic diaries?

www.target.com let's you sort the "toys" section by age and boys/girls, but it still wasn't helpful enough for me.

iPod shuffles are pretty cheap these days, too, that was an idea that was thrown at me from a 15 year old I know. Otherwise movies, handheld video games (but don't go breaking your wallet on these things)

I was going to ask what 10-15 yr old girls like. Sorry I don't have kids and i'm not a pedophile, so i'm not hip on the latest trends. If someone (hopefully not a pedo) can charm in here with a list of ideas that would be super.

My fear is this: How many kids getting these toys will have computer access? I know the numbers are much higher than they used to be, but this is needy kids.

They're not for the 12-15yr old girls, but I think I'm just going to buy a ****-ton of legos.
    Because who doesn't like legos?

I'm doing it the easy way.

    1. go to Target
    2. look at the girls toys
    3. read the packaging on what ages its for.
    4. done
