    Problem:
Around new years I noticed that the rearmost interior light was not turning on when the rear hatch was open. Checked the light and it was functioning fine, so I didn't think too much about it. Couple days later, the hatch is stuck closed; locking and unlocking doesn't energize the solenoid. Crawled in the rear through the passenger space (car seats, organizer and dog grate all in the way) and manually unlocked it. Hatch functions fine (not frozen or stuck).
Now the car always thinks the hatch is open, will still lock the doors but obviously not the hatch.

So I'm guessing there is a loose or broken wire somewhere inside the hatch.

I'm pretty sure I can fix this on my own, but my issue is that I have an unheated garage and it's really freakin cold. Plus, pulling plastic parts and cold weather don't usually go well together.

    Request:
Anyone have a warmish place I could borrow to work on this problem? I live in Champlin (NW metro).

Also welcome to any ideas or information you all have to offer up.

Most likely a broken wire where they flex when you open the gate, it's fairly common. We stock the gate harness up here at Miller Hill.

You might be able to repair it, but there's a good chance you'll have gremlins, and other wires about to fail.

Gate harness part # 81812AG03C . MSRP $88.80, which I think means the Morries MNSubaru price is $71.04, and they show one in stock.

I already took a peek inside those two rubber boots and I don't see anything obvious there.

Ok almost got the old harness out. There is one connector to the wiper assembly that will just not release. Any tips?

Ok Got it all done. Why the hell is it so easy to put a car together and so freaking difficult to take apart? (I know - the parts are made to aid assembly, but it's still annoying).

I'd say the vast majority of times working on a vehicle leave me thinking the exact opposite.
