I had been dealing with a fair amount of flex in the clutch/brake pedal and after seeing the not so uncommon problem of broken welds on 2008+ WRX/STI, I decided to take my dash out and get a look at it. Both spot welds and the bent vertical tab had broken away from the firewall. I ended up putting three M6 bolts through the firewall and bracket, which stiffened up the mount well enough. The firewall still flexes under load to some degree, but much less than initial. I am running an Exedy State 1HD clutch as well. If you are seeing/feeling 5-10mm of flex in your pedals when depressed, It would be wise to look into this.
Good to know...hadn't heard of that problem. But I'm also not going to take out my whole dash to fix it lol.
I've read about this and have the associated squeaking that others have reported from pressing in the clutch. I'll probably bring it in for warranty work soon.
I've read most guys have been quoted with $1000+ in labor to have this looked into, based on 6 hours of labor. Honestly, I tore this apart with a broken foot in a boot, hopping around on one leg in three nights haha. So if anyone was looking to take this on, I'd give a hand for a few beers. I haven't been able to drive it with this fix yet because I'm on crutches for another week or so!
Does this only happen in the latter year subies? I had that noise in mine until the clutch was replaced. Also had the same noise in my 98 civic dx.
I think it came with the GR generation? Don't quote me on that, I know waayyy less about the GRs than the GDs, and that's not saying much
