I hate to do this but I am going to make a new thread as I've looked for a thread about this and haven't had much luck. I just bought a 2008 STi and it only has a downpipe and is tuned for the downpipe. If I were going to get a cat back, either the CNT quad tip or Invidia single exit, would I need to get it tuned as well? I know the stock downpipe was very restrictive and requires a tune but does it need one for a cat back as well? I'm assuming it does but I want to make sure. I'm sorry for being new. If there's a thread that is there that I couldn't find id appreciate it if you could point me in the right direction. Thanks
Not necessarily. Usually you can add a catback to a stock DP with no tune. So you are good to go as long as it has a "stage 2" tune with the DP. I prefer to add all bits and pieces and then tune as it allows the tuner to really dial it in. But in your situation, shouldn't be an issue!
The previous owner said it was a stage 1 tune. Would that make a difference? It'd be aftermarket downpipe and exhaust then.
That doesn't sound right. Unless his definition of stage two and stage one are different. Stage one flash can be done with the stock DP. It has always just been a smoothed out, better version of stock. Stage two flash would be more of a downpipe/ebcs/fuel pump/etc. Either way, i would pay someone to look at the computer and see exactly what you're dealing with before messing with anything.
I'll talk to the previous owner more about the tune that was done. He said it was a stage 1 tune by NF performance. Thank you for your help.
