The annual autocross held by the University of Okoboji Corvette club is coming up in a couple weeks. I posted a video of the autocross awhile back on this site and there were a couple people interested. It is by far the best autocross you will attend...but it is close to two and a half hours away from the Twin Cities.

I know Martin is coming (I forgot his screen name), and a big group of my friends who mostly own Mustangs. Chux, you are also required to come.

Anyways, the flyer is going to be sent out in the next couple of days...I'll post that as soon as I get it. Hopefully we can probably work out some type of caravan down there that works for everyone, but here is a mapquest route to the event:

    http://www.mapquest.com/maps/Wayzata+MN/48572+County+Road+44+Windom+MN/

If you have any questions, post 'em up. Don't worry about car classes, either...there are only two: Vette & Non-Vette. They award some pretty big trophies:

Hopefully some of you guys will be able to attend!

How much and how many runs? Considering this is a Corvette sanctioned event this location will allow for runs that will require more than just the first two gears? I might be interested. LOL

    I'm wondering this too.

How many entrants do you expect and is there a cap?
    Membership fees?
    How to pay?

I think I'm free that weekend so I'll probably go.

You get 3 runs for your car...but I doubled up with someone and drove my own last year for a total of 6. The course is huge. After your 3 "official" runs are done, then you can just take your car around the course pretty much as many times as you want. There is also a timed quarter mile event afterwards. You can run that as many times as you want as well.

Gratuitous bump...well, I guess a cause could be learning that Chux will for sure be in attendance. The plan is to leave from the Orono area...does that work for everyone? We have around 8 cars so far that will be in our cruise down there.

Sorry I didn't see your post earlier...yeah, the course is pretty fast. I was in the top of third gear in my Mustang last year.

Last year there were at least 80 cars...no cap that I'm aware of. No membership fees, and you pay at the gate when you get there

Hopefully my camera will be fixed by this event, so I can snap some pictures while you guys race. I think I will hold off driving your car, I predict melted clutch otherwise. lol The huge plus is I can sleep or try to sleep on the way down. :)

I guess regardless of what mother nature decides on Sunday we should be in good hands, considering we'll all be in Subarus. Might want to bring some RAIN tires just in case.

Gotta let the toaster stretch its legs a little and rip up some asphalt.

Lol, I have no clue about the weather. The Weather Channel forcast shows sunny days before and after Sunday, but the event falls on the one crappy day. Luckily, they are a bit conservative with their forcasts, and it'll probably turn more to an overcast or may just shift to a different day by the end of the week.

car is running as well as it has in a long ass time *knock on every piece of wood I can find*, and I'm actually making some money at work this week *more wood knocking*. Pretty good chance I'll be there!

If it rains, one of you guys in a Subaru may very well end up winning. I'm on shaved R-compounds and my buddy is on slicks...we were one and two last year, separated by less than a second. The nearest car was 7 seconds behind us. But if it rains, we're both ****ed.

So Musashi you're going? Who else? You guys are more than welcome to join our caravan down there.

Oh, I thought I'd throw up pictures of our cars as well...so you know what to look for:

    My car:

Nick's car (buddy who I was talking about):

    My brother Graydon's car:

I don't have any pictures of my buddy's supercharged MKII 2-door Jetta...or Chux's wagon, but I assume you know what that looks like. Anyways, it'll be fun to have more competition if you guys have decent cars. Nick and I were just talking about that the other day. Just don't beat us or we may have to kill you.

Musashi, Derek (Mike's son), and I will be driving my car.

Mike Wagner will be there in his battle wagon.

Where's the caravan start? Musashi and I plan to meet Mike and Co. in Chaska (I live in St. Paul/Falcon Heights area).

Musashi's an instructor for the Northstar BMW Club (I believe, something like that...). I can't speak for the other guys, but you'll have your work cut out for you!

actually, we should probably meet you guys in Chaska as well. as I bet we'll be going that way anyway. if we leave Maple Plain at 5:40, we'll probably get to Chaska around 6:15ish.

also, I'm secretly kind of hoping for rain. with open front and center diffs, I have a problem with spinning a front wheel when exiting a corner. but if it's a bit greasy, I'll be able to lock in the center diff.....

Derek is an instructor also (at BIR) and is also a Kart driver. Mike's the "old man" who kicks Chet's ass all over the go-kart track with his eyes closed and one arm tied behind his back.

I can't speak for myself either.

Rain or shine it should be a good time. Sounds like a really relaxed setting and a not-so-technical course design.

We plan on leaving Chaska around 7 since mapquest has it down as a 2 hour and 4 minute drive from Mike's place to the site.

Chux thanks a lot for setting some expectations, bro. LOL Its something I enjoy doing, proud of but not something I'd like to flant. I expect nothing from this event other than just having fun. Mr Idget has kindly invited me to co-pilot his car with the Wagners who I've been trying to hook up with so its a win win situation from all of us, I'm always looking to learn from others. A master at being a student!

Things just got more exciting! Top two Winners get's a group sponsored lunch! LOL

Excellent, I'm glad everyone that is coming seems to be responsible from the posts so far...this is a fun-filled, laid back event, and we want to keep it that way. We're probably going to take US-169 all the way down there, so we could definitely stop somewhere in Chaska and meet up with you guys around the time Chux posted.

btw, I'd be more than happy to give you a ride in the FrankenWagon. heck, if there's time and you're interested, you'd be welcome to drive it. I'd love to hear your thoughts on my little work-in-progress.

I haven't been there before, but I called Paul from the flier.
Volunteers will work the course so drivers just form a single conga line. Hopefully they have a line-skip policy for multi-driver cars.

    You mean awesome?

I'd just like to say, I've been to this autocross for the past 3 years...it is extremely low key. It's pretty much the lost city of gold as far as autocrosses go. If you bring an ego or an attitude, the people I'm going with will probably not appreciate your presence. Hell, I was bitched at for just making this thread.

Anyways, just thought I would get that out there. Can't wait for Sunday.

Everything that's been posted about this event sounds like a great atmosphere. You won't have to worry about our group, and if there is a problem don't be afraid to let us know, I am looking forward to being invited for another year if things workout this Sunday. Hopefully thats alright! And thanks for the invite and I'd like to catch a ride with if possible.

How many cars, runs? Have the course layouts been good? The weather's starting to look nice for Sunday too.

Man I'm trying to figure out if I'll make it out even. This weekend's starting to look messy, not necessarily bad, but other people have been making plans for me, lol. I might be both up in the Cities and Winona this weekend, and I gotta figure out if I can or want to make it back down here to do auto-x bright and early in the morning. We'll see... I really want to go vroom vroom with the toaster.

KAF-Thanks a bunch for inviting us to this awsome event, it was not my intention to take your trophy away from you, but I guess today it had my name on it, I was just looking to have some fun and help show Mr. Idget my .02 cents of the AWD limits. Perhaps we'll do it again next season, lots of great people there. Lots of beautiful cars and some serious drag racers too. Too bad no one got my spinouts on video.

Chux-sorry I never got to checkout your ride, next time your in the area, hopefully during a DCTC event I'd like to check it out. Nice to finally meet and greet bro.

Wagners-That was some serious fun we had, perhaps next time we'll have to do an event together and quad co-drive one car (wagon abominator), and cross notes.

Idget-You have tthe skills, lets do more events together and maybe I can learn a few things from ya. Thanks for letting me drive your beautiful car.

Musashi-You need to get into a RWD car!

Well I brought home a heavy paper weight today, I just hope I didn't bring home the sun burn. I better go check.

Yes, big thanks to the nice folks that let us run with them.

Very fast event (I hit fourth) and a lot of very impressive cars.

Musashi, too bad we only got one run in my car. We will definitely have to drive together again. Your tips and the great conversation have me looking at driving a Subaru in a whole new light.

Mike and Derek, thanks again for letting me drive that beast of a wagon while I sorted out some "technical difficulties." It was a real treat getting to sit in the passenger seat and watch you three pros go at it.

What a great day for MN Subaru Members

    BTW Top 4 times

    1. Musashi
    2. Idget
    3. Derek
    4. Mike

    All Subaru's

It was great to ride with each of you, what a great learning experience. Road Race is smooth and deliberate, Auto X is brutal and quick. After one ride with Idget I droped 2 seconds off my time. Special thanks to Roger for letting Derek try out the monster, now he wants a larger turbo haaa.

Here are a few pics as proof.

The organizers of this event were incedible considering the 40mph winds blowing the paperwork everywhere.

Thanks to my Wife and Daughter for traveling down to make this a great Fathers Day.
