Would it be possible for you to share a map of the layout you're using for the weekend and I'm just curious if you guys are working with a sanctioned body or local car club to help organize the motorsport competition aspect?

This will be in July and if you've been living in MN you know how hot and humid it gets. I'm surprised there isn't a stage for male wet t-shirt contest to draw in more enthusiast. LOL Anyway this looks like it will be a successful event.

I have been wondering this also.

I have some ideas in my head but not sure. A "map" in advance may help people thatk are in the events, and to control traffic.

Just to double check, you don't have to pre-register for the auto-x do you? Is there going to be a limit on the cars allowed to auto-x, and how early should we be there?

I know, I wanted to go the world record subaru thing as well. But this is going to be huge. We have people come from all over the states to this thing! Its going to be a fantastic time.

The AUTOX will be behind the bleachers I believe in the big open parking lot. The setup/layout will be decided once we arrive and check out the area.

a drift club is setting up an autocross, and they're doing it day of? what do you guys have for timing gear? how many cones you have access to?
is the autocross thing a joke, or are you trying to bring in some true autocross competitors?

A Joke? Why would we be doing it as a joke. They wanted to set aside some space and do some auto-x runs. I'm not sure what timing stuff they are going to be using as we are not setting it up. As stated, EPDC is going to be running the AUTO X.

It's not a SCCA event or anything of the sort. It's going to be setup for fun for people to compete against each other.

Some people are just way too serious, don't you have enough paper weights already! Maybe you should let some of us who aren't quite as talented get a chance to win some paper weights too. LOL

I think it will be an awsome event, layed back and tons of fun. I always hated the competitive pressure anyway, not that there won't be any. LOL

I am sure you-MAP guys have been and will continue to be scrutinized for this event wheather it goes well or not. Either way, I'm just glad to be a part of it and thanks for host it. Let me know where I can help!

No, i'm not out to crush you guys or anything, but from what i've heard of the autocross aspect, it seems like things are coming together half cocked.

1 second cone penalties? the reason SCCA/Everyone uses 2 seconds is that there are many elements of courses that could be clipped, head on or to the opposite side, and easily make up that 1 second and put you on a better line. not only does that give an unfair advantage to a few people willing to play a little dirty, but it makes a ton more work for the course workers.

is there any classing setup? it's clear your running some classing among the drag racers, but not the autocross? if your just going on raw time, it's hardly fair between someone who shows up on slicks and a built suspension, to the guy who usually plays in stock class, and is running street tires.

And the lack of a proper course design ahead of time is almost more of a safety issue than anything else. getting a proper course laid down ahead of time, you have more time to analyze just what can go wrong, plan for logistical issues, get a strong idea as to what cones will be hit the most and place workers accordingly. i'm not saying that no one has ever built a course day of, but the ones that are planned are usually better flowing, safer, and let an event over all run better.

I don't know, I'd just hate for some local guy to go to a poorly run event, get a notion that all autocross is like this, and then loose interest in the sport. I'm not interested in another trophy, or conversely, someone like steve show up with the Evil Bar of Soap and just blatantly crush the crap out of everyone in an open competition.

I'll be honest though, at this point, this event is not really coming up on any autocrosser's radars right now.. i mean, you haven't even posted it on the Minnesota Autosports Club forums? I know autoxers don't really seem to be your target market, but if your holding this kind of event... might not be a bad idea to throw it up there. there aren't even any local events that weekend to compete with.

zomg autocross is the be-all-end-all pinnacle of motorsports! I wasn't aware that running around some cones in 1st/2nd gear in a parking lot was such serious business.

    Lighten up.
