Registration for the April novice autocross school opens tonight at midnight! http://myautoevents.com/pls/mae/frmEventDetail.Show?psevent_id=10838
Anyone know if MAPerformance is doing their thing at Brainerd again this year? I believe some MAC guys were going to help out with the autox portion...?
As far as I know they are still going to do that again this year but there isn't anything announced yet. I do know that everyone wants to make that autocross better than it was last year.
IMPORTANT UPDATE: The dates for MOWOG 1 and 2 have changed. Valley fair gave us late info that they are repaving parts of the lot this spring, and want to give the lot some time to settle. they offered us the following weekend, May 8th and 9th, and MAC gladly accepted. Please update your calendars accordingly.
Has anyone done the Novice classes? I am considering Auto-X this summer, but have zero experience driving Auto-X or even watching it.
Highly recommended. The first one is full, but you could try to buy a spot from someone else or wait until registration for the second one. They usually fill up in a couple days.
I think the April school filled up in something like 18 hours. The novice school is probably the best $50 you will ever spend on you and your car. Lots of seat time and one on one instructor time. If you want to learn to drive your car better the novice school is the cheapest and safest way to do it.
+1 for the novice school, way better than going to a competition for the first time auto crossing, so much more seat time and a lot less pressure
The registration for the second novice school is open now. Looks like it's filling up much slower this time. http://myautoevents.com/pls/mae/frmEventDetail.Show?psevent_id=10839
Still 28 spots left in the June 5-6th novice school! I went to the one last year and it was an excellent way to be introduced. Let's get some more subaru's signed up! If you have any questions, just ask them here.
Registration is open for MOWOG 1 at Valley Fair. Really fun venue. I haven't seen the new surface, but it can't be any worse than what it was the last few years.
Tall Dan and I were thinking about hitting up MOWOG 2 since NTR1 is that saturday. I plan on driving through every muddy puddle at Nemadji and not washing my car for the autox.
That would make for some great pics! I'm contemplating doing both days since I won't make many mac events this year. If I have to choose one over the other, I'll always choose Saturday tho.
Driving portion is run similar to a full fledged autocross. Tech is done the day before, at the classroom session.. this gives novices an extra bit of time to correct any issues we may find with their cars. Drivers are split into 3 heats, Run/Work/Rest and they rotate on a time basis schedule. Each run, the driver will be acompanied by an instructor who can eather observe the run and provide feedback, or if the student wishes, give feedback during the run. During the lunch hour, lunch will be provided, and the instructors will be allowed to drive their cars as long as there is a student or students riding along. Drivers in the novice school tend to get a MASSIVE amount of runs. Double, or even tripple what you would get at a standard autocross event.
Driving it well too matt! you got me by a 10th on sunday! really really really wish i could have cleaned a few of those up!
Just got back from Novice School (and my first ever auto-x).... That was f'n AWESOME! Props to the organizers, instructors, etc. Great fun, learning, organization and really cool people & cars. Also really nice to have seen MonkeyKing and some other Subies too...
Thanks! we always appreciate hearing that people had a good time, and their thanks! i'm a little bummed that i wasn't feeling better... instructing is so much fun and i just wasn't feeling well enough to drive my own car, let alone hop between a bunch of student cars!
This last weekend was my first AutoX as well, what a blast! Watching the other drivers (and cool cars) while working the course was way more fun than I expected. Lots of friendly enthusiasts, I would recommend this to anyone. If your on the fence, go watch an event for an hr or so. To any instructors/organizers on the forums, thanks so much for putting this on!!
I want to bump the MAC Intermediate Driving School, Saturday, June 26th only 9 people so far and it has room for 24. Get some great instruction by professional autox instructors. http://www.myautoevents.com/pls/mae/frmEventDetail.Show?psevent_id=10850
Unfortunately I can't make it to the Intermediate school b/c of work... plus I'm definitely not intermediate... However I was wondering how many spots left for M4? Thanks!
Only 22 people signed up for the COM autocross on August 1st. Sign up! http://www.myautoevents.com/pls/mae/frmEventDetail.Show?psevent_id=10986
Seriously, Sign up for the COM event... this is the kind of event that Suby's tend to love... even ones with bigger turbos. the COM guys really love to let their vettes out so long straights, sweepers, and higher average speeds are generally standard affair at their events. Plus... low head count = high run count
Registration is Open for MOWOGs 7 and 8 it's a Two event weekend at Canterbury Downs. They've got a lot that rivals ValleyFair in size and generally the surface is much better. This site is large enough that we can really bring some great flowing, fast courses. and our course designers generally try and bring some of this year's national championship courses home for those who didn't make it down there. Register now! http://myautoevents.com/pls/mae/frmEventDetail.Show?psevent_id=10847 http://myautoevents.com/pls/mae/frmEventDetail.Show?psevent_id=10848
who's going this weekend?? I'm trying to decide if I should go or take a trip down to chicago :-/ If I do go, I'll be there Saturday and possibly Sunday.
Fuji and I will be there on Sunday to do some more testing on his car. It would be nice to see some familiar faces at the event.
I'll be there saturday and sunday, assuming I wake up in time. There's about 50 open spots for both days, so try to get more people to come. Highs will be about 70, so it will be much warmer than last year. You can go play poker after the event too.
I think I'll go Saturday. At least for the first set of runs. Don't know if I want to spend the entire day out there on one of the last nice weekend days, but this is a really fun venue. Not sure if I want to rush to get the rsvx running for this or if I want to drive the other car either. hmmmmmm.
