When the 2015 STI gets to the dealer, I'm trading my 2005 STI in for it. When I read about the handling improvements, it's got me sold.
Cool. What color and options u looking for? Still waiting for my WRX. End of April but they said call this coming Friday to get a more exact date. I hope they move it up!
I'll see what the dealer wants to give me. One reason why I want to trade it in is I don't want to be griped about if something goes wrong after I sell it. It's a good car, but it has 172K miles on it.
Just a side note, i'd possibly be interested if you did decide to not just trade trade it in. Just shoot me a PM later on if you change your mind!
I ordered a white base 2015 STI and drove it home this weekend. The vehicle is more nimble and spry than previous editions. We do have one Launch Edition that is not spoken for and is due to arrive around the end of the month. Email me at scott at subaru.net if that is something that you want to take a look at. Scott
You will probably get a better price for your 05 selling it private, but if you trade it in and they put that against the sell price you can save some money on the sales tax I believe. Scott would probably be better to speak to that.
I thought I'd post the mods my car has so you can do some research on whether it is a good fit for you if I choose to sell this privately. Only problem is check engine light for cylinders 1 through 4 misfire It could be plugs or ignition, but the car runs very strong. The engine, turbo and headers are all stock it's been running Amsoil Signature Series synthetic oil since the car had 1000 miles Car has never been raced or abused. I am the only driver. Currently on snow tires, so needs a good set of summer tires. Here are the mods: MadDad v2 Divorced Wastegate Downpipe Haywood and Scott (ScoobySport) Axleback exhaust Ultimate Racing Wastegate and Up-pipe ACPT Carbon Fiber Driveshaft Cobb F/R Swaybars Karboy Front / Rear End links Cobb Access Port v2, running stage 2 map now. If I were to sell it, I would be asking for 10K.
Since it has 172K miles, that would be a real possibility. It definitely wouldn't hurt to rebuild with forged components. Then the real power mods can start.
Update- got the car today. I traded my 2005 in for 10k, got 2.69 percent interest on a 60 month loan AND an unlimited power train warranty. Since I'm leaving this stock, I think this is a good deal!
Morries Minnetonka? I picked up the other launch they got last night. Traded my 2011 5dr WRX in on it..
So you were the one that got the launch edition. Saw your 05 Subie outside the while brother was testing a car out. One of the sales person took your car for a spin.
Wow 10K for your trade in on an 05 with 172K miles? Thats a great deal. Congrats! I'm picking my car up from them soon too
That's what I really want to see. If a stock 2015 STI is faster than a Stock EVO X on a road course. I have been looking for youtube videos but haven't found any yet. I would think Motortrend, Road & Track or some car reviewing company would put them head to head.
Why would the stock STi be faster than the Evo X if its the same old EJ motor, tune and horsepower and perhaps the same gear gear ratios? Is the Evo X currently faster than 11-14 STi?
STI 2011-14 slower than the Evo X on a road course. The 2015 STI has the newer/upgraded suspension and I bet it would beat an EVO X on a road course.
Yea the new chassis is much stiffer too and has the engine mounted farther back with more behind the front axle like the BRZ for better weight distro. It would be pretty sad if the new STI was still slower than the evo that has been out for 8 years!
Power isn't everything From the factory, the sti has more power. Put the two on a road course, much different story.... Evo's are far more precise and better poised than the sti up to 2014. This 2015 is supposed to be great, but I want to see it benchmarked against an Evo X.
I would think that Subaru would have compared lap times of the 2015 STi to the 2011 STi record breaking 7:55 at the Nuburgring. But since they didn't do that, is why I'm not expecting miracles against the Evo. But our own "Musashi" would be a good resource to test both the Evo X and the 2015 STi at BIR.
Here are a few my son took of mine...and the one I took as soon as I got home with it, sorry for the crappy lighting but it was dark out already..
You should see one at BIR a couple times this summer. Maybe on 5/19, he is unsure if he is going up to the HPDE that day or not. However, the car is not very stock....
Under the hood the 2015 is almost identical. Many parts swap over from the GR chassis(Full Exhaust, Sway Bars, Coilovers, Master Cylinder brace, ect). I don't really see that the engine is lower or further back. . The axle forward design was "rumored" for a while along with all the "new" engine stuff. It seems that the "chassis" is all in the same place/form. Seems the changes were in other parts of the suspension, additional bracing/chassis engineering, ect.
I saw one tonight and it seemed a bit different than the GR under the hood. I didn't measure but the engine looks a little farther back. The wheelbase is slightly longer though right? It seems like you definitely know better than me. It's really interesting that the full exhaust swaps over! Is the ecu the same too? Has your buddy gotten a tune for his? If so then that is a great reason to go STI over wrx.
The biggest thing I noticed under the hood is the area in front of the motor changed. The radiator support is lower than the bumper, where in the past, they have kind of flowed together. The car is still stock tuned, he is waiting for the new AP to come out before tuning/modding further. The open source market has got in the ECU already. From what I understand ecu is different(more rows in the tables). Power delivery is much smoother then a stock GR. He still is running the stock downpipe and intake until then as well. The gr one looks like it should fit, however the fender plug piece isn't right.
I contacted Cobb about the ECU because I assumed all Subaru did was remap the same ECU and Cobb replied that the ECU itself is different than the outgoing model.
the sti supposely still runs the same denso ecu nothings really changed it's the forester/wrx that has the new ecu
Thats what I would have thought, maybe its just new firmware and Cobb doesnt support it yet. Opensource should be able to play with it though...someone with a 2015 sti get their car over to Nuke to find out for sure!
