I messaged this guy to get more details. I haven't heard a reply yet, but I'm waiting since it does mention that he'll get back to people in a timely manner. It list some mods, and a tune that was done. The dyno sheet shows 205WHP. Wouldn't that be just about stock? I know the 02's were rated between 215 - 230HP at the crank. What are your thoughts? http://brainerd.craigslist.org/cto/2791595786.html
At the crank and at the wheels are two very different things. My 05 STI was around 235-240 WHP on a stage one re-flash and am now putting down 300 WHP with a stage 2 E85 tune. I'm not sure what the bug-eye whould put down with the mods listed, but I'm sure someone will let you know shortly.
Depends on the dyno, operator, correction factor, temperature, humidity, etc... if youre worried about the health of the motor ask for compression numbers.
The only power adding mods I see is the downpipe and possibly the axleback. Which, if he gutted his uppipe (which he should have) would be Stage2. Stage 2 on a 2.0L motor typically falls between 195-205whp on most of the dynos around here. Crank HP on that car is probably sitting between 250-275. That sounds about right.
Thanks guys. I know there is a difference between crank and wheel HP. I just thought 50+ HP loss to the wheels was extreme. I guess I'm wrong.
It's an awd car. assuming 250 crank hp, 200whp is 20% loss. A little over 25% loss if 275 crank. Sounds right. Either way, if you're worried about numbers, compression numbers and trap speed will tell you a lot more than peak dyno numbers.
Also remember your wanting to buy a vehicle that has 147,xxx miles on it. I would be more worried about the maintenance aspect of it rather than the dyno numbers. Find out what was replaced... timing belt, tensioner's, water pump... yada yada yada. imo
You also have to look at the parts used. AEM intakes suck. CAI's work good if their tuner "tuned" the car for it. If not, you lost power right there. If it is the short ram, you just lost power. Your intake air temps will get so high on a dyno that the ecu will be pulling timing to keep the motor alive. Then you add the "tuned" part to the short ram. All the AEM intakes were a bit different in size than the stock airbox, which required some tuning to be done on them. Then like Readymix stated, at the end of the day it is just a stage 2 car and depending on the boost, you are going to max out the injectors right away and not really make the power the setup is capable of. The WRX is about 170WHP stock, 227 is crank. Stage 2 can get you to about 225WHP. Definitely need to check to see if the timing belt was done tho. If you do want to improve the hp of your stage 2 tune, add bigger injectors and fuel pump. The stage 2's are limited by the fuel provided.
When I dyno'd my car (02 wrx) with no mods other then a different BOV, I put down 185 whp at RS' dyno.
I believe my friend was only at about 210whp in his 2004 with a "conservative" Stage 2 tune (wanted to have it be reliable versus push limits) -- I believe Bullwinkle tuned it a while ago.
