ok so while the 20g sitch is getting figed out, I would like to upgrade internals, will a Genuine Subaru BRAND NEW STI 2.5l shortblock with pistons, rods, crank, bearings, rings etc,etc,etc..... be strong enough, or should I upgrade my internals on my wrx 2.0l??? YES YES YES I know my tranny but right now if I buy the short block, is it a direct bolt on???-Assumin I use my wrx heads right???

A stock EJ257 block is plenty strong for a 20g. IMHO way better option than an upgraded 2.0l. For the roughly the same amount you get .5L more displacement.

It is a direct bolt on. But, you will have 8.7:1 compression with the 257 head gaskets.

Not necessary at all. You wont outflow WRX heads with a 20G. That 1000 dollars or so would be much better spent on an EWG setup.

Nope, the 8cm hotside should still bolt up to your stock up and downpipes.

And flow enough to not have any overboost issues.

yes to all catless exhaust w/ upipe and yes to an ewg.........
so basically I buy the block, drop it right in?
does it really fit picture perfect?
assuming I have my new, turbo, injectors,FMIC,ewg setup installed with this, all I have to do is tune??? it seems way to easy to drop in a 2.5 shorty

Yes, that is pretty much all you'd have to do, assuming you bought a brand new shortblock from Subaru. You'd also need to use an STi headgasket. But otherwise, everything from your 2.0L will bolt right up to the STi block.

Talk to driftin240, he did this to Justin's car not too long ago. He'd know what you need specificly, and could probably get you a good deal on a new 2.5L shortblock. He works at MTKA Morries Subaru Service dept. Shoot him a PM.

i'm trying to follow this thread, my lack of engine awareness is going to make this question retarded.

is this shortblock is the same thing I have in my sti ?

I too would like to travel the 20g route some day, is the stock sti engine safe to run this turbo with with all the other goodies? ((asuming I don't need a new up pipe because the stock is catless ... ))

Yes, the STi shortblock is what is being discussed, and is what you have in your car. And yes, you will be more than safe running a 20G on it.

short block means no heads etc... (the bolt on stuff)
long block means everything except dp, up-pipe turbo etc....

correct me if I am wrong... its something like that when you buy engines generally...

Stock internals will be plenty fine for a 20G, and yes Speedemon is using stock internals on his 2.0L

There are many people on IWSTI running stock internals pushing more power than a 20G can offer. If the tune is done incorrectly even forged internals aren't going to save you. Make sure it's tuned, tuned, and then re-tuned. I'm staying stock internals when I get my 20G + meth set up soon. I guess only time will tell how long they really last. But again, a bad tune + forged internals doesn't mean you are safe.
