after getting my tires (245/40/18) on my car...First time today that I really taken it out for a drive...Did a few 1st and 2nd redline pulls shut down around 60-65mph...Just to see a difference and man, I've slowed down enough that it is noticeable from 225 to 245...Grips great, but the car seems slower from dig. I need to definately get a bigger turbo to get that thing going...I knew it would slow me down from dig, but man I didn't think it was that obvious...or maybe I'm getting to use to my car that the VF34 isn't as quick when I first got it... After getting use to the increase in HP/TQ from stock it was a huge difference, but now it feels stock again lol...
oh gosh yes...I've only driven the car 3-4 times since the brake upgrade...I'm still not use to it, especially when the rears aren't installed yet so the car dips forward a bit when I step on it...
might be more related to the fact that your wheel and tire package is now much heavier, as well as your much larger front rotors adding much more rotational weight.
Each pound of rotational mass added to the driveline is like 7-8lbs static mass. I noticed a huge difference in the added weight of the 6mt (~80lbs) and the turbo with said hardware. My brakes don't feel as badass as they used to:emo:
Yea..I figured all that weight and larger rotors would be the cause...The car does handle and brake better that's for sure...Building my Drivetrain first before I bring PAIN!
Indeed, practice makes perfect. You might be able to open your front doors and fly faster than it rolls...at least with the wider tires, you'll be able to land safely...nice and cushy.
Don't worry, in no time you will have forgotten how much quicker it was. You will learn to appreciate the grip more...
oops...hehe then yes...18in. I thought OD meant original dimension (previous)... sorry Matt, thanks Brian...Also the bigger brake kit didn't help as far as the go...but definately help in stopping..
Ummmm.... Ray you still missed it. 225/45r17 looking for the 45 like number there Ray. New ones 245/40/18 Old ones 225/??/??
Sh*t am I that out of it...thought I'm reading it right and my typing is not connecting with my brain... 225/40/18 u know, I meant to type 40 but y I put 18 is a mystery...Plus my wife said I was talking in my sleep too last night...I need to proof read my post more often...
Well then your new tires have a larger circumference and you have an effectively taller final drive. That's probably why it's slower from a dig now.
ding ding ding. according to this calc: http://www.subarubrat.com/Calc.htm your old tires were about 24" tall, and the new ones are 25.7". that means your car goes about 5" further per rotation than it did before.... so yea, it'll accel slower. independent of the rotating mass issue. AND, taller tires means the weight of the tires is further away from the hub, which also means the tire has more angular momentum, even if it weighs the same. it has nothing to do with the tire width
I can't wait until my 315's come  . Ordered some stickies for the rear, plant that ass. The stock 275's aren't cutting it anymore. Hope there isn't any major differences, the rim size is staying the same. Sorry for hijack.
hey, just stating that I need something to give me the grip to keep up with you AWDers off the line....
the sidewall height is what matters. I linked to a great gear and tire calculator above...punch in your tire dimensions and see if the OD changes much...then you can use those numbers to find the rpm differences at speed, etc.
Just to poke and prod a bit....yes, it has all to do with the width...the sidewall and the rim diameter didn't change, the width did. 40% of 215 != 40% of 245! :rockwoot: Muhahaha
come again? 215*.4=86 245*.4=98 AND the rim diameter did change. my point was that if he had been going from 215/50r17, the change would not be nearly as obvious, because the OD would be virtually the same. obviously, there'd still be the weight issue....
If he's rubbing with the 245's I hope he's dooing it somewhere private. I'd hate to walk in on that...
Fronts are fine it is the Rears that rub, but not all the time tighter turns well rub and anyone in the backseat...and I have about an 1in drop...also with an offset of +44 with 8.5
