Al right, its about time to do away with the old 142k ej207. So, I'll be getting a new 257 short block. What do I all need for this swap? 1. 257 short block 2. Cometic headgasket(*anyone or is there a certain thickness?) 3. ARP head bolts(for future mods) 4. Head work, what all needs to be done? I figure with the heads, I will replace all the springs, valves, etc. Cams, I wonder??? Was looking at the Helix cams and valve train package, but they seem to be hit or miss. I don't want to worry about crap happening with them. I'll use the stock td04 for break in period, then upgrade. What else do I need? Will I need a tune right away? Wiring harness? I figure plenty of people here have done swaps. So help me out. Anything you did you wish you wouldn't have done? Anything you didn't do that you wish you had done? Advice?
I'm pretty much going to end up eating the cost for right now, Gruppe-S has said they'd take them back. But I haven't had time to box them up and ship them back to them.
Yeah, I seen that you bought them when searching them on nabisco. The signs were there and yet you still bought them?? tsk tsk!! What do the crowers run? $1k?
Oh hell, thats not bad at all. Surprised you didn't just go with those to begin with. Anyways, so is everything going to basically be plug and play with this swap? Besides needing a tune?
yeah good luck man. i am going same route as you. we will have to keep in touch and let each other know how its going. are you getting new heads? or leaving them? i dont know what to do in that area. I mean i will get new exhaust valves and seals but i dont know....
you could have some machine work done on the heads if you wanted too. IIRC a 3 angle valve job is good for some more TQ. other wise new valve springs, get the rotating bits (engine stuff) balanced for alittle more, and let 'er buck!
Pretty much keeping the old ones. Can't afford a whole long block at this point, although I would rather go that route. Who balances the rotating bits? I assume your talking crank right?
