So, you'd sell a GC8, a nice lightweight car that is easily swapped with a turbocharged powerplant. And you'd buy a hulking, overweight, mitsubishi on a 30k loan?

that thing is sick as hell! but i agree 30k is a lot of money to spend on a modded car that is hardly worth that brand new... i personally would keep looking... you should post up some specs so we can further nit pick

You will NOT get financed on that. I can almost guarantee that..perhaps onthe onelumpsum payment plan something might happen.

Or...100% downpayment spread across 84 months perhaps?

There aren't enough words for how poor of idea paying 30k for that car is. IF you have a million in the bank go for it, otherwise this car sill sap your lifeblood. If you really want convertable there are quite a few cars that are better options. Don't get me wrong I would love to have one of these, but in the end they seem to be a novelty more than anything.

You can if your credit is good enough. My loan guy told me I could go much more than what my STi was worth. I do not recommend spending 30K on the car though.

Those cars are mechanical nightmares. After 60K everything starts to go wrong.

If you have another car to drive that will get you to work and nothing else to spend money on and you just have to have a 3000GT then get it. Otherwise save your money and sanity.

But your STI is WORTH that much. That car is USED, and look at the value on KBB, or something similar. The bank will finance based on the actual value of the vehicle, some banks will allow an outside appraiser for modified vehicles.

Anyway. Sexy car, not worth near 30k tho.

If you want to spend 30k on a conv, get a Solstice GXP/Sky Redline or a regular one and turbo the hell out of it. :)

Mitsubishi will go under in the next 5 years. That car weighs somthing like 5K lbs, a three toed sloth could go around an autoX course faster, now dont get me wrong that car is super nice, and attractive, but you are basicly throwing money away, its not going to be reliable, its most definatly not going to be practical. you have a swapped GC right now and you want that thing? you have got to be high

3000gt is my fave car ever but like said in previous posts... its a car u get if u had a million bucks because of its price and its value is never going to hold up... it has a few problems that are quite common and low on mpg too. like others said with 30k go buy an sti or if u want a convertable similar to it but better get a s2000 or supra... s2000 is lighter too lol then u add a turbo/supercharger and u be as fast as that 3000gt or close and better on track too..

i agree to all of you guys....i just have the urge for getting something VIP exotic and a some power don't really matter about having a fast car...to me its getting kind of old about trying to make your car fast and even if it is fast its not like you can just race anyone that you want on the street its too risky...but like some of you guy say only if i was rich like some kids where mommy and daddy buys me any cars that i want i would get this car as a beater...ahahh...thanks guys for you input...

The only way you could do it is if you get a personal loan and not an automotive loan. Trust me, no bank will finance a loan for that. Having been a finance manager for car dealerships I can tell you that right now.

Fixed it for you erik ;)

...and if you are looking for something "vip"ish, go buy yourself an M3 like someone already mentioned. Much nicer interior, stereo, overall build quality and its going to be just as eye catching, but in a classy, understated way.

Just dont stretch yourself too thin financially over a car either. You wont feel so VIP when you can get in anywhere because you cant AFFORD to, ha.

They were more than $45k new.

    They weigh like 3900 lbs.

Stuff doesn't just start to go wrong after 60k miles.

It's like any other car, it'll last longer with proper care and maintenance.

I'd take an Sti over that anyday and I have a 3000GT (not a spyder).

KBB on that car is around 13-14k. 30k for it is a complete ripoff.

And Supras go for 40k all day long. (Not that I'm comparing it to a Supra.)

But "market price" can vary greatly from what KBB/NADA say.

+1. You have an STi & your thinking about that? Talk about buyers remorse. Last thing I think of when I see that car is VIP. Not sure about this since I'll never be a VIP, but there may be more to being one than what car you drive...

One more thing, looking at that car with the clean lines, and its prettyness, then there's a bigass silver antenna sticking out of the fender. lawl. FM Diversity antennas FTW.
And if you DO get one, no damn stickers. Ew.

    I corner weighted a 3000GT VR4 once.

absolutely disgusting. 70% of the weight on the front end WAS ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. this means when you get in it, it gets much worse. maybe this is an advantage in japan where you sit on the other side. i think that the front left corner must have had cement in it or something. the F/R weight was like 68% front, 32% back. No wonder it steers like it does.

I know two autocrossers that have them, but each has a much better other car (one a supercharged miata, the other a collection of stuff like s4's etc) and they both irrationally love their 3000gt vr4's, but both admit that they can barely see over the gigantor front console when driving it.

also, it looks like a gigantic catfish. The metallurgy is somewhat poor and prone to rust, especially around the door handles and rear wheels. I see a lot of them with rust in these areas.

That's because the car holds it's value. It's still a decent car by today's standards, it weighs about as much as an STi in turbo form, can be easily made to make more power, had very nice build quality, and is somewhat rare.

The 3000GT was a great car when introduced in 1991. But it just got heavier and more archaic as the years went on. Whereas the Supra got lighter and more refined. KBB shows a turbo supra in good condition to be worth around 30-35k.

    That's a photoshop, I don't think they offer a hardtop version yet.

But the Sky Redline can be had for under 30K. 260hp, 2900lb curb weight. I'd take one in white with tan leather please. kthx.

I don't know man. It cuts 0-60 in 5.5 sec and a sub 14 1/4mile. And it looks halfway decent. Not to mention, any mods you do to it benefit from its light weight and size. Sure, if I had to choose, I'd probably take an MS Miata, but nonetheless, a 2900lb RWD convertable that is making more power to the wheels than a stock 02-05 wrx is pretty impressive. It would be a fun car I'm sure.

And I'd be interested to know the CR of the motor, and some specs on the materials used on the internals. I don't imagine it would be hard to make 350whp on something like that with a 20G or a Garrett snail. Not to mention it doesn't suffer from the enlongated header/uppipe lag like the EJ series motors do.

My research tells me that your research failed.

MSRP for the vr4 was 45K for a 1999 model.
