I am moving and my new garage has a full furnace already. I bought this 3 years ago. It runs on natural gas or propane. I used it on propane because it was a stand alone unit. It worked great and I was able to get all kinds of stuff done in the winter. I will include: *The 45,000 BTU Big Max heater (cost was $450): http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_200307959_200307959 *The stainless vent kit with flashing (cost was $140) *The honeywell thermostat (older unit that works great) *Gas lines and flexible lines and propane regulator (cost was $60) *20Lb Propane tank (cost was $40) So I have about $690 into it and I would like to get $450 for everything. Thanks, Chad
i have the same or very similar heater but I plumbed it into the house's natural gas - it works very very well and whoever buys this will not be disappointed!
It really depends on how well your garage is insulated, the size of the space, what temperature you want to maintain, and how often you use it but during one winter of relatively heavy garage use I would refill the tank 3-4 times over the entire cold season. So you could get a larger propane tank and refill only once per season or if you have a gas line close, run it on natural gas. For me it was easier to run on propane and avoid the need to dig a trench for a gas line to my detached garage.
I got one similar in size waiting to go in as well. I'll be running it off natural gas like Carl. I better get on that before it actually gets cold out.
i am really interested in this. my detached garage will get very cold this winter if i want to do any work out there. however, i need to add some roof ventilation and cut an access hole into the attic space first. the previous owners never put roof vents in only soffet vents and since we cant get into the attic we arent sure if there is insulation covering the soffet vents or not.
not worried about venting the exhaust. i knew it was vented cuz of the thread title. i am worried about venting out the humid air and keeping air movement in the attic space so there wil be no mold/rot issues.
