Alright, it's about that time again and with Jack being home I think those of us that are firearm inclined should get together and send a few (thousand) downrange. As far as dates go, I know Jack had mentioned the 26th or 27th. Sunday afternoons are alright, but the range can get rather crowded and they're only open until 5pm. Monday night they may be doing their fall pistol league so we'd be shut out there. I was thinking perhaps getting together sometime this week, Wednesday night is out for me but I think we could get something going. For those of you who are interested, let me know what dates you're available and we'll get something set up. I'm thinking this coming Thursday (the 23rd) would work well, we could shoot from about 6-9. I've still got some targets, as well as some 12ga and .45ACP and my usual box or 2 of .22LR. Who's in and what night works?
oookay, so heres my plans while I'm home. I do want to do this, but I'm gonna be real busy Tuesday at 2:00pm I arrive at the airport. Tuesday night is open, but I'll have to convince my friends picking me up from the airport to go with me to the range. weds I should be open during the day, but weds night I will be spending with my dad and stepmom, before we head up north to go hunt. We'll be hunting all Thursday and probably getting back later that night. Friday afternoon I will be heading up to Duluth to visit some friends there with a big group, throwing back some brews and just having a good time. I'll be there until either late saturday night or come back sunday afternoon depending on if I can get a ride back sat night. Monday is currently COMPLETELY OPEN, and tuesday my flight leaves at around 3pm back to cali. Hey Brian, I really appreciate you guys setting this up, it would be really fun to do a shoot. I can buy some ammo, but aside from my shotguns (basically pheasant and grouse guns), I dont have anything to bring.
Depending on the night I can be in. Thursday after 6 might work out for me, the following monday at the same time may also work out. Mornings might work on tues or thurs. This week is the busiest one I have had, possibly ever so it is tough to plan this in. I would really like to be there. The main issue is that I have class every day of the week until about 5, and I would have to go home and get my stuff, and then head to the range. I am not going to keep my stuff in my car while I am parked in a public lot in the cities, sorry but no way. Anyway if we do this I could give you a ride Jack, if you are out in the mound area or in the Minneapolis area. I just did a rough sight in on my gun this weekend. It still is alittle left and low but will pretty easily put 10rnds w/ in 3/4" at 60yrds. Need to work up and get to some longer ranges with some hand loads. I still have about ~250 rnds of .308Win left, went through 80 this weekend.
Bump? Is this going to happen? I want to go to Bills sometime soon. I want to rent some guns, to see what I like (in a .40 or .45)
Son of a blank. Jack, I'm so sorry. I've been so wrapped up with the new job that I completely forgot about this. I owe you a big apology and a day at the range on me. Next time you're in town we'll get this going. Is anyone around here up for a day in the next couple weeks?
Yes, sir. Just tell us when to be there. I have a friend who just joined the site (he's sort of shy) that wants to come out and play too.
Alright, how does next weekend sound? Saturday, November 8th? Same deal as usual, meet at Bills at 9am and blast away followed by pizza across the street?
Sounds good to me. I will bring my rifle. .308Win 150gr. no steel cased stuff. I want to rent some handguns. XDm and USP if I can.
Oh yeah...Sean, I'll have the swat shotty there if you want to give that a go. You know you want to....
dang yo. Yeah i didnt have time anyhow. This may have to wait a few years until I get to the point I WANT to shoot for fun. Right now I've put enough rounds down range that its begun to just be a point, aim, shoot, hit, repeat sort of thing. Hunting with my dad was great, and will never lose its appeal. Maybe we could do a hunting get together or something, a deer weekend or something, again, in a few years when I'll be home for good. I am picking up a USP .40 or .45 for christmas, sounds like my dads getting an itchy trigger finger too and found a package deal on two. Not sure which one he's going to keep.
Get the .45 if you can. One of the softest shooting and best .45 pistols out there. Bumpity for making bang bang.
I've got to cancel out for this weekend. I need to get out to Milwaukee, so I will not be able to go. Sorry guys, I would be up for this next weekend though.
I am interested in coming out with you guys, I don't own any guns, but I think this will be a great opportunity to get started. I will also not be able to make it this weekend due to work. But I'll keep checking for future events.
in under 3 years when I get back I will host a couple of fun events, one of which can be combat marksmanship and we'll run through pistols, shotguns, and of course, rifle marksmanship. If anyone has an interest in learning to shoot to kill at 500m+ we'll have to find a location, but I'm sure with it being minnesota, and farm country, we can pull something off. I'm trained to shoot irons to 600m, and scoped weapons out to 1200m, so we could have some fun shooting gallon water jugs with 180+grain rounds. woot Also, we should figure out a mnsubaru hunting trip or something, I know its planning way far out, jst throwing it up in the air and saying its something we can set up
That sounds good to me, I should have my Bushmaster ACR and Remington 700 by then. Alright, how does this Saturday work for everyone? I'll be going regardless, I'll be there at 9am and going until whenever I run out of ammo or get too hungry to shoot.
Saturday might work for me. Hopefully I might have something in .40 to bring by then as well. Anyone know what the current/cheapest price is right now on Federal 150gr .308win?
Steph, that'll be perfect. You two can just crash at my place, I'm sure Jason will be in the right frame of mind to shoot something with less than three hours of sleep
You still going Brian? I am going to try and make it out there by 9, I might be bringing a friend with but am not sure.
I think I am going to drop out. Dont feel like waking up so early on a staurday, but mainly I am going to save my $15 for later when I have more to bring (only 80 rnds right now which goes fast). I am thinking that maybe that first weekend in december I will head out there.
OKAY!!!!! I just wanted to put this event back up there on the list. I put in for, and was accepted for 24 days of time at home. I will be back starting new years. I was wondering if anyone wanted to go to the range saturday or sunday in the afternoon? Not sure if I have any weapons of my own to bring, but if you can come, let us know what you'll be bringing. If someone has an AR-15, SKS, etc, let me know. Also, pistols.
I would go ahead and start a new thread for a new event. Depending on the day I would like to come. I have only been to the range once with my new pistol (XDm) and it was well below freezing (outdoor range). I was shooting low and left (probably too much trigger finger or flinching) which I want to work on correcting in a room temperature environment. I will need to load up on .40 ammo before the range day, but I want to do that anyway. I might also bring my .308, but it seems a waste of money to shoot that at Bill's, with only a 25yrd range, as it comes out to $0.60 a shot. keep me posted on the date.
martin, I'll start a new thread, and we can talk about the days we can try to meet up in there. I was hoping to reuse this instead of cluttering the forum, but its too jumbled and doesn't represent whats going on well anyways. Are you right handed? Are you shooting from the weaver or isosceles position? If you're low left, I'd recommend staying in, or moving into the weaver. I shoot from the tactical weaver period. Its a far superior position for both accuracy, target engagement, reloads, and movement. If you are low, you are anticipating. The best way to remedy anticipation, is to get dummy rounds, and have a friend load 2-3 dummy rounds into your magazine. Then shoot. When you get to a dummy round, and pull the trigger, it will be obvious what you're doing. If you are left of the target, your grip pressure isnt equal to the pressure of your shooting hand. If you are low AND left, you are pushing the trigger sideways. Adjust your grip so that your trigger finger falls in a natural position. If you are shooting for accuracy, don't concern your grip with being in reach of the safety, or the magazine catch assembly. also, make sure you aren't overlapping your thumbs, and have no gaps between them. Weak points in your grip can cause the recoil to trace to them, shifting your shots left.
