I just got a letter from the rochester dealership for the 60K Mile service.

Had some questions for our members that do work for a subaru dealership.

    What is done?
    Is it worth it?
    expensive?

    Your thoughts?

    nabil,

Do it yourself! It's the 30k service plus brake fluid and transmission flush, I think. Perhaps spark plugs as well. 30k service took me a few hours on a saturday afternoon. No big deal.

I don't work at a subaru dealership, but I'll throw my $0.02 in anyways. I do all my own maintainence, so I know what I have done to the car, and what needs to be done. I haven't done any of the services. If you bought the extended warranty for your car, I would probably do it, just because you need to have proof of that type of stuff to keep your warranty. 60K is out of warranty, afaik, so it's not going to help the manufacturers warranty.

It's up to you whether or not you should do it. When I look through the list of things that are done at the dealer, I can do most of them myself. There are a few things that will take some time, but if you set aside an entire Saturday, and line up one or two of your buddies to keep you company and help, it shouldn't be that hard.

Depending on the car, the 30k may be the same as the 60k. Non turbo cars get new plugs at each service, as they have copper plugs instead of platinum/iridium. All of the fluids that are in your car are replaced, as well as checking the brakes, tires etc. I highly highly recommend doing the service. However, if it's something that you can do yourself or you can find a guy on here that will help you then go for it. Most of the cost involved is labor, and I know that 600-800 can be very, very expensive for a service. PM me if you want a complete list of what we bill out in our parts dept for a 30/60k service. Let me know what year and model car/trans type you have so I can give you an accurate quote. Good luck!

My knowledge is pretty limited. Besides changing Oil, tires, spark plugs, etc im pretty much clueless. Thats why i need to know what stuff needs to be done. If it is easy, i will do it; otherwise i'll leave it to the pro's.

rmrf, where did you find the list?
