http://www.kare11.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=521180&catid=14 Like it or not, the decision to drop the bomb saved lives in my opinion. Had Japan not surrendered when they did, Operations Olympic and Coronet would have resulted in millions of casualties on both sides. There were far more people killed in the firebombing raids than were killed by the atom bombs, an invasion of the Home Islands would've decimated the population. Here's to hoping that weapons like that never have to be used again.
i just read '1945: a novel' by robert conroy, which elaborates on the exact scenario of the military coup in japan succeeding, which leads to the cancellation of the pending surrender by japan. it's all food for thought, but an interesting perspective nonetheless. http://www.amazon.com/1945-Novel-Ro...bs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1218054942&sr=8-1
Hey shorten, I notice a lot of Kare11 links from you. I sure hope you're not one of those horrible commenters that are starting to turn me away from that site.
Oh hell no. It's just on my regular rotation That, and they're just across the street. I still fight the urge to get a couple people and a water balloon slingshot and try to loft a couple onto Sven when he's in the backyard
^ We saw that guy at Ruby Tuesday here one night. I guess he's from Cottage Grove. Very silly. I like them because they USED to be pretty unbiased. Lately though ... the stories are one thing. The commenters are another thing. It must be a strictly MN thing to be a **** on the internet. Maybe MN and MA
I saw him at The Cheesecake Factory in Edina last year when I was there for my birthday. I knew he was short, but I didn't know he was that short.
