I have been trying to wrestle the tent pole down in my pants for the past hour. This stuff is so damn hot. I'm so stoked. The pics below, two of them are of the HKS CAMP display, and one is of the DVD display. Also notice, I painted the dash bits flat black.
what paint did you use for the dash pieces? I've been meaning to do that for awhile. Looks really good!
Krylon semi-flat black or something. I'll check the can later when I see it again. First time using Krylon paint in a while...I must say, I love krylon's nozzle much better than duplicolor's nozzles. But DC paints are just awesome. Wonder if Krylon nozzles fit on DC cans...hmmm. Oh, and another pic....harnessbar and clean paint.
That is sooooo awesome!!! I was thinking about making a carputer, but I need to spend more money on performance, and maybe when I'm satisfied, I'll work on the carputer
Actually, the primary purpose of the screen was to replace the gauges. The DVD player came with the screen deal...I got the LCD monitor and DVD/CD/MP3 player for 400 bucks where the MattJK scrreen alone is 350. I couldn't pass it up. I bought the screen so I could use the HKS CAMP. It will monitor boost, egt, oil temp, voltage, injector duty cycle, rpms, speed, miles/gallon...and it will display all of it on screen at the same time...and you can set peak values for each one so it makes the digital 'gauge' flash when you hit peak. I'll have it at Firestone on Friday.
That part I like the most about the dash is that it all looks like it is SUPPOSE to be there. It doesn't look out of place at all.
Very Nice, Jason...Maybe I can borrow your LCD and DVD player for the next Carshow haha...and your seats and your cage and....
Car looks hot, I love the harness bar. I just ordered one from the same guy today. Looks like Raymond touched up your front bumper too, looks niiice.
why not...It would be nice to have more imports there...Kinda boring seeing honda/acuras all the time.
Let me know if you want your harnessbar painted. I left mine in the basement to cure for a couple days and it turned out nice.
I don't know if you remember but I had the exact same setup in my Saabaru--minus the HKS stuff. With a "bit" of modification you can actually get the HU trim piece on. It looks good as it is--but with the trim piece it looks D@MN near OEM. It took me awhile of screwing with the HU and the pod housing to get it all lined up to where I liked it but it worked out pretty well. Also I fished a rca to mini-jack input from the line in, down the counsel and into the armrest and stored my iPod in it. That JVC HU is really nice. I am surprised more people don't have it--you can pick them up for $189 at Circuit City now. Oh and thanks for the ride last weekend--sweet car. Probably one of the best/cleanest looking WRX's I have ever seen. It's the subtle details that really make it stand out.
Yeah, no kidding. I couldn't believe that a headunit could be so versatile. For me it negates the need to build a carputer. I can't build a playlist on MS MediaPlayer or whatever, but I can burn a DVD with 4.whatever gigs of mp3s and store it in the drive. I am picky about music so I don't see my collection changing any time soon. The HKS thing was the primary purpose for it. Once all the sensors are in, it'll be 100X cooler. I don't have the HU trim, I wonder where I can get that. Probably have to order it from JVC. And thanks for the compliments on the car.
who in the world still uses ms mediaplayer? playlists via winamp!! or any front end software for the carputer.
Actually I could give it to you! I have/had two JVC HU's. I bought one on ebay and the damn clip that holds the face onto the HU broke--keep in mind the HU was new in box. Returning it was a pain in the ass--because I bought it two months before I even opened it. So I was kind of screwed. You could give me $10 bucks out of sympathy and I could hand the whole box over to you--that way you have an extra face, trim, remote, etc. Let me know if you are interested.
Agreed. Winamp > all. But I figured displaying Winamp would be hard because of its fixed size vs. MSM that fits to screen.
Very nice, I was thinking about getting the HKS Camp display as well. Nice price too! Does your source have any more?
Actually, the source only has access to the sensors...and only some of them. The harnesses you will have to make yourself. The CAMP ECU and CAMP J-Box are both unavailable. I found the ECU on eBay, and the Junction Box I just got lucky on Nasioc. I bugged the right guy, and he just happened to still have it after almost a year since his forsale post. Yes, I will be at Firestone on Friday...I'll be there around 8pm and stay till everyone leaves.
Gauges will be for sale. I have boost, EGT (which is far better than a narrowband A/F) and a digital clock. Comes with the Autometer 3 gauge pod. I need to find a new crush washer for the EGT fitting, I'll be contacting Greddy about that soon.
