So my dad has 1977 Olds Cutlass 4 door, that has about 30,000 original miles on it, and has been untouched in years. It was always thought that we would fix it up together, and swap out the V6 for the V8, but alas, we have about 3 other big projects that need to be tackled before that ever gets a look, and we are thinking this might be the project to move away from.

He is the original owner of the car, and everything on it is still stock/original. It needs love, as any car parked in a garage for 20+ years, has a few flaws. Being parked at my aunts house, it suffered a fair amount of door dings to the one side that faced my aunts car. There are also a few small scratches. I haven't had the chance to look much more at it recently, as we just moved it from Scandia to Maplewood.

What I am wondering is if anyone knows the demand for this vehicle, and if so, could help me start thinking about pricing and maybe where to try and sell it?

We hate to get rid of her, but as I said, the money would be incredibly helpful in the other more pushing projects.

Thanks again in advance for any help/advice.

    Julian

Honestly, since its not a v8 car, and its a 4 door, you probably wont get over $1500 for it. I'm an olds nutjob, (though I'm now down to two cutlasses) and have a soft spot for the mid 70s cars, but 4 door anything is a turn off in the muscle car world. If you find someone to buy it, they will likely look into turning it into a demo car, and try to pay as little as possible for it. I sold a mint 70K mile 74 delta with a 455 for $150, it was turned into a demo car. I say hold onto it and fix it up as you see fit, you arent going to get anywhere near what you want for it.

Unfortunately, its a V6 and if it runs it is a plus but not much because its a 4 door. The fact that it only has 30,000 miles is a plus but at the same time it is a 77 when emissions started really coming into the industry. I think you would be lucky to get $1000 for it. If it means a lot to you and your dad, keep it and drive the heck out of it.

Thanks for the advice guys. I hope that if I really spend some time cleaning it up I can get a little more for it... I saw a V6 on carsoup for 8500, with similar miles, and only difference was it had fresh paint and was 2 door... we'll see... I am torn because I think it could be a fun and unique project, but we also have a '78 Toyota Land Cruiser up at our cabin in need of love, and that is a little more up my ally i think... We'll see what happens. I will try and get some photos soon. If anyone knows of anybody that would possibly be interested (in the Cutlass), send 'em my way!

So... upon looking at the car last week... I can be dubbed biggest moron for today. I was under the impression that over the years and many childhood trips to my aunts (where it was stored) that the car had four doors...I think we know where this is going.... there are only 2. Any chance this may increase the possibility of a sale? I am hoping to get some good photos in the next week or so as we need to move it from where it is stored now... LMK if that changes much... Thanks

2 doors vs 4 doors will help your sale tremendously. Are you still sure that it is a V6?

So, if you didnt know how many doors it had, could you maybe be wrong on the year? a 1977 and a 78 are totally different, btw.

EDIT: My apologies on the information about the vehicle. The car has not been driving since before I was born, and has been in storage since. Long story short, recently my cousin and her BF decided to move the car (without asking/talking to anyone) and drove it (on a tow dolly) to one of our family properties and put it in the back yard. After a few deep breaths, my dad, other cousin and I went out tonight to move it at least into the drive way and I was able to snap a few photos. Again, I had a lot of misleading info on it before... so this may help with a few answers.

    1977 V6 Cutlass Supreme Coupe
manual transmission (3speed/3 on the tree).
    38K original miles.
Has not been driven regularly since about 1981.

So at this point I guess we are just at a crossroad. I am not sure what the plan for the vehicle is. My dad and I would love to get it up and running again, and maybe figure out a new engine to follow.

So again, any advice, guidance, or knowledge of things I should look out for, be careful of, and so on would be greatly apprecitated.

Sorry again about the poor information at the beginning of this thread...

    Here come photos...

its definatly older than 78, 76 or 77...I love it. Shined up and running good its worth about 2K, if its really really clean..... I have a 455 block and crank I'de sell for $200, with a freshly turned crank, that would breathe some life back into the old girl.

And here is one other gem that we have parked with the cutlass right now...

1980 VW Dasher. Back in her prime, sounds like she was a pretty fun little car!
