Hi there! mid last year I purchased my first Subaru "Legacy". I love the car to death but it needs a little work.. I'll start with the bad and work into the good! I'm open to any questions you may have! Here are some details to get started! The bad, Head Gaskets will need to be replaced soon, needs a tune up,? the drivers side head may need to be looked over. has 191k will continue to raise as i need to get to work and home, driver side rear strut makes a noise every once and a while. interior is okay "small tare on drivers seat" Leather interior" The front bumper I trimmed due to it being cracked. windshield has a crack, may need a abs sensor & E brake adjusted, "There's a little there. Also needs exhaust. some plastic in the trunk was pulled out, Still there just needs some new clips and carpet re tucked If I can remember more ill add to the post or however i need to respond. Some minor surface rust. All seems like it could be easily repaired. The Good, 2.5 Boxer DOHC W/ 5 speed manual transmission. "Shifts Great' no pop out's or grinds." Has Headers new fuel filter new radiator 3k on clutch, Flywheel, pressure plate & throw-out. new slave cylinder & lines. new o2 sensors, the water pump and timing/ tensioner was said to be done just before i bought the car. like new tires, 90% or better Has the nice legacy rims' lowerd on wrx struts and springs, Sunroof works does not leak! everything seems to work that's electrical I beleive this is the aspen white, for paint. Comes with the factory amplifier, ""I have 2 10" kickers with a 1000 watt amp' Kenwood deck" wired in' sounds killer, but will go for the right price. I've read that these cars are getting harder to find. im sure there is some more goods and maybe another bad.. if i remember or come across anything' i'm more then honest. It's a great riding nice looking car that someone could fix up for fairly cheap. I just do not have the tools/room/or time to fix this gem. I'm looking to upgrade and also have another vehicle up for sale as well. I'm open to reasonable offers and or possibly trades, Worst I can say is no, Kbb Says 2900 is a fair private party value, Like i said above' if i receive a reasonable offer it will not be turned down, I know it needs a little TLC so i'm negotiable, Clean title' & will probly need tabs. Clean title. I'm sure there is lots of questions to be asked if interested, my # is 320 493 7460, Text Preferd. I will get back. I'll also be able to send pics off my phone, I will do my best to get you guys an image on here.. Just new to the site! Thanks!
What MN 3.6R is implying is price is required. Keep in mind headgasket replacement is over a $1k job if someone has to pay to get it done. Please post a price and GLWS!
I understand guys. I'm unsure of the value due to the things wrong. so i wont take it too hard if you send me and offer. lets start at 2600. my number is posted above im off to work i can get back on breaks! Or reply here and ill check this after work! thanks
open to offers. I also seen a set of local heads on craigslist for 75 each. I do not think the head is bad. but i'm assuming sense it will be removed for the head gasket it just well be gone threw. I'm not overly familiar with subarus' but from the look of it they seem user friendly and a head gasket job does not look to difficult "IMO" I'm thinking of starting around 2500 obo,
Many will argue, myself included, that engine removal is necessary in order to do HGs properly. Its not exactly a quick and simple job.
Everybodys mechanic skills are different. Besides all of that yes the motor is easy to pull. Like I said I just don't have the tools or a cherry picker. The motor however does not need to be removed to do the gaskets. Unbolting the MM, and a jack to lightly twist the engine a bit will alow the head bolts to clear frame. Alltho I would suggest pulling the motor, considering its 8 main bolts and a few wire clips.
Headgaskets are very, very common failure points. Most of your target audience here is a lot more familiar with the process and costs associated than they'd like to be.
Car is worth about $500-$700 with all that is wrong. You have a lot of work to get it close to fair kbb. Not too many people are going to buy a car for $400 under kbb to put $1,000 into it and then have it be worth less than they are into it for
My only reason for it being on this site is for the fact of maybe finding a Subaru enthusiast who knows what there doing... a new gasket kit does not run very much online, plus the comet head gaskets if done correctly to solve the 2.5 issue... the cars straight, not much rust, some new stuff'.. tires ect.. and as much as i've read there fairly hard to come across. I have over 700 in new parts over this winter. the clutch was just replaced. along with other things. no it's not perfect but it's still a nice car. and still has some value.
I don't think anyone is trying give you a hard time, its just that the HG project is a game changer when it comes to resale value. Personally, if I wasn't already mired in my own LGT project I'd probably be interested.
I bet! I just know there are people who know how to do it without it costing a grand. with all the gaskets and even a set of used heads i can see 500-6ish from what i can add up, I just dont have the time or tools to fix it up' or i'd keep it around.. Head gaskets go in everything and these boxer motors are super simple. you guys make it sound so complex. lol
There nice cars and most i've seen are in much worse condition then this one. maybe i'll do a set of head gaskets and then throw it up. would there be more interest if i just did the gaskets? the rest would need to be finished
if i dont have an reasonable offer by the end of the month i'll do the gaskets and throw it back up. I'm not overly picky. Like i said i dont have time or tools, i'd let it go for a deal but not 700 bucks. and nobody's giving me a hard time, I'm unfamiliar with the price range these go for. thats why i'm open for offers.
TBH, it's not as easy as your stating it is to complete the HG. and yes, once you complete the HG job, people will be interested. As for a rare car, a white 5speed GT is somewhat rare but the audience is geared more towards the 2.5rs impreza's then the LGT. Trust me i know, use to own a 97' LGT.
I'm possibly interested if you do HG's, yes. That's a flag many, many folks will be looking for when on the hunt for a high mileage Subaru. I have little doubt you'll get a lot more interest and a higher price with that knocked out.
