I was talking to a guy at a performance shop and he said it would be fine if I took off my return pipe for my bov. I just recently took it off and the next time I ran my car the check engine light came on. Is there anything I could do to prevent this? Secondly I was looking at getting intake for my car and wanted a few differnet opinions before I made my purchase.
For deciding on what intake to get depends on the car. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but as far as the WRX and STi go the best intake is the factory air box. I am not sure about the other models though.
As far as the intake thing goes... DO NOT BUY AN AEM! I cannot stress this fact enough. I'm not bashing the company, i'm just stating that we here at morries have seen 2 WRX's with melted pistons, both of which were equipped with AEM cold air systems. I would look into K&N Typhoon, Cobb Short Ram, or Blitz SUS, and APS Short Ram. Go to www.rallysportdirect.com they don't always have the best pricing, but you can see some of the above systems
turbo xs shorty is awesome! you dont really need one, but i like the sound. Do not use a stock bov with out returning it. if you have to have a bov, go with a turbo xs something! Tim
from what i have heard (numerous times) the stock airbox is good tell you are at about 300hp. so alot of people leave the stock air box in there. by removign the return peice youjust made your BOV vent to full atmosphere. this is alright, however it will make the car run rich during shifts. probably the best thing would be to get a 50/50 atm/recirc or an adjustable BOV. good luck
ooo ****s...i had a aem cai on my wrx. oo well i dont have the rex anymore. hope they take good care of it.
OUCH!!! I REALLY need to replace mines then... Too bad mine came with the AEM intake when I bought it...
you have to remember, if your car was tuned for the intake, it will be ok. if your car was tuned with the intake, and someone slapped one on, that is where you will run into trouble. Russ
Remember that gasoline is a liquid and has a "cooling" effect when it evaporates (ever sweat? Yeah, like that). So if your cylinders aren't getting enough gas, things are gonna get hotter. A less-obvious way to not get enough gas is to stuff TOO MUCH AIR into the mix. So if you "overdo it" on the airflow (OR screw up the computer's perception of the airflow), you could end up with too much air / not enough gas --> HEAT --> melted stuff. I'll stick with NA, thanks. (I've got an AEM Short Ram, but it's on a MY00 NA RS2.5)
Thanks for all the input. Is there much of a difference if I got an intake that connected directly to the turbo with a high flow elbow, vs if i got a short ram that connected off the stock elbow.
