If you actually believe that lasers can be jammed with how fast they nic you then you should spend the money to get one of these.

Protection as in going off AFTER the cop already got your speed.

They're there just to let you know you're getting pulled over before the cherries pop in the rear view.

True that, I wouldn't spend my money on a radar detector unless it was a radar jammer. Radar detector's do just that, detect that you just got zapped with a laser and prepare yourself to get pulled over.

Laser jamming is not illegal in the states. It is goverened by the food and drug administration as it was originally used as a medical device. Radar jamming is illegal in all states as it is a radio wave and goverened by the FCC.

Yes, they do work as I had a jammer on my STI and it bailed me out of several situations.

There are no federal laws in the U.S.A. that prohibit the ownership and/or operation of laser jammers.

However, some states have enacted their own laws that do prohibit the ownership and/or use of these devices. These states include: Nebraska, Minnesota, Utah, California, Oklahoma, Virginia, Colorado, Illinois and Washington DC.

Looks like they did inact a new law since last I looked.

Subd. 12. Radar jammer. For purposes of this section, "radar jammer" means any
instrument, device, or equipment designed or intended for use with a vehicle or otherwise to jam
or interfere in any manner with a speed-measuring device operated by a peace officer.
No person shall sell, offer for sale, use, or possess any radar jammer in this state

They also serve as an early warning when they're being used miles up/down the road on others. My buddies V1 saved me many times on long road trips for just that reason. Granted, most of it was POP but none the less...

yep, the 'laser' light on a detector (not a jammer) should be labeled the 'You're F***ed' light.

Never had a ticket using one. Like others have mentioned if they are using laser or POP on you then you're pretty much screwed unless you've got the fastest reaction time ever and weren't over by that much. It's the indirect aspect that helps a lot.

Where does everything mount up - glass, bumpers, dash? Can it be reasonably mounted out of sight?

laser Jammers are Illegal in MN, POP radar is not a vaild radar by federal standards, If they were to use pop they would have to turn it off and lock you speed on regular radar..therefore its not used.

Here are the laser jammer states or a nice map to look at.
    http://www.guysoflidar.com/usa-laser-jammer-laws.html

Now for radar detectors, I have had three of the top line detectors from time of purchase of my STi,

Escort 8500 x50, Nice detector, would recommend for the price works well, housing plastic, not the best, suction cups mounts suck you have to buy new ones often. You have to buy the hard wire kit witch I recommend-highly. Programing is easy and user friendly.

Escort 9500i, IMO do not buy, the GPS feature is nice but they have reduced the sensitivity of picking up radar, same basic features if the 8500, it just has the GPS feature to lock out false signals and mark speed traps. It will show you your speed on the display which is nice, speed is relevant to the GPS or uses it to figure out your speed, I will show it to you when it receives an alert or you can have it on all the time.

Valentine 1, currently in the car now, LOVE it worth the money, A+++ very sensitive. You can send it in for updates, has a metal case so if you drop it or if it falls off the windshield it wont break. Comes with cig lighter power cord and hard wire kit. Has arrows for finding where the source of radar is coming from. It has a rear radar antenna. Programing takes a little to get use to. Comes with suction cup mount and visor mount.

So far the Valentine 1 has been my best pick.

Mounting your radar detector is very important, DO NOT MOUNT IT ON THE DASH, the higher the detector the better chance it will receive earlier. So put it by the rear view mirror, mount it to the center.

Well thats my info about radar detectors, but then again I dont know Sh*t

I'm hesitant about mounting anything on my windshield after getting pulled over for hanging a stupid air freshener on the rearview.

Some guy with one hand on the wheel and one hand on a cellphone with his head cocked over is just as impaired as me hanging my air freshener on the rearview imo. Yet who's the one who gets pulled over?

I have had mine mounted there and never have been pulled over.

This would not be considered a obstruction or something that reflects, that you would get pulled over for.
