No doubt. Rally drivers are the best drivers in the world bar none. Even F1 is weak (in several respects) compared to rallying. Considering almost every other form of motorsports puts drivers on a course they have completely memorized and could run in their sleep (even the 13-mile Nurburgring), rally courses have so many corners and variables (like people & animals in the road, hugely variable weather, and distances that test any cars durability), anyone who drives a rally car is my hero. It is interesting to note that these rally cars (pictured in the link above) aren't the "real" STi rally cars. These Rally-Cross cars are significantly less expensive. I don't believe they use the anti-lag turbo system, nor do they have the 380mm water cooled brakes like the "real" rally cars. They also use an H-pattern tranny, so the driver actually uses the clutch. The big boy rally car uses a sequential tranny and the driver does all braking with the left foot. The car does have a clutch pedal (it's super tiny), but the clutch is ONLY used at the start of the race. I don't have an exact cost for this "rally-X car", but the regular STi rally car costs a Million bucks.
I FULLY agree with you except on a couple of things hehe.....actually I went to the Ojibwe Forest Rally this summer and learned a couple things about the U.S. Rally team>>follow link below>>....."might be more explained in my thread?" sorry to burst your bubble but ROLE models are always disappointing when you meet them LOL jk...but seriously the STI's used DO have anti-lag....and I can attest to that being in the woods and hearing them...i'm sure if you YouTube it you can hear 'em and second they use a "DOG BOX" clutch so technically they don't have to use the clutch to engage the gears....i can also attest...we were waiting for them to leave for the stage and you could here it ENGAGE hard/loud. One other thing is I asked Pastrana what size motor it was and he thought 2.2L which was backed up by one of the mechanics....the cars are made by a tuner in Vermont...i frgt the name....check the thread.....I can attest....look at BLOCK's plate (Green Vermont)....also check the thread, where my friend and I followed him on the way to the stage! ....Fully agree with ya though 05MR, just wanted to clear those up:hsugh: >>>check the thread>>> WITH PICS!!! http://www.IWSTI.com/forums/picture...we-forest-we-followed-ken-block-56kdeath.html
This is probably my most favorite stage in the series. I've driven pretty much every stage in the midwest and I can seriously say this is soooo much fun... just don't go wide
