I had recently purchased a set of used Michelin Artic Alpine tires for my Forester from a seller in Union Grove, WI. I was lucky enough to get them for $152, but shipping was $110. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...=1&item=8006120399&sspagename=ADME:B:RTQ:US:1 After I got the tires, I gave the guy a positive rating, but commented on his high shipping costs. (other sets of tires in the same size were half that) He messaged me with this: HI, SHIPPING WAS NOT HIGH. UPS $90 3 ROLLS SHRINK WRAP $15 AND $5 FOR GAS TO RUN THEM 30 MILES TO BE SHIPPED BY UPS. THANKS, GARY Then based on this auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=66474&item=7990420903 I responded with this: Hey, Gary. The reason I said that your shipping costs are high is because there are other sets of tires on ebay in the same size shipped for much less. Besides, the auction you've retracted on the exact same tires on Ebay just a few months ago would have cost $10.27 a tire through the postal office. Why $110 now? But the transaction is over, so no hard feelings. Thanks! Was I wrong? I mean, this guy got a negative for retracting the old auction ending with $31 because he "sold it before the auction was up on Ebay." :? If I contacted the old buyer and told him that I got the tires that he was supposed to win, I can get this guy in trouble. But I'm a good guy.
It was still a very good deal considering how little the old owner used them. I just know I got jacked on the shipping rate. Live and learn???
I ALWAYS watch the shipping cost on ebay....some sellers charge next to nothing, other's charge whatever they feel like...just some blatant, flat rate thing that'll cover it no matter where you ship it.
Fong I know those will be excellent on the ICE but will be a different story in the snow. http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/findTireDetail.do?sw=true&cs=205&pc=11687&rd=16&ar=55
eBay should set up something like Half has, where THEY provide the amount of shipping. Or some STANDARD because some sellers GOUGE you for shipping, especially if they are selling something that won't go very high.. so that they make at least SOME money. Which is pathetic.
Very true! I always read the auction like 10 times looking at all the "hidden" charges and shipping costs.
I do the same thing. And crap like this doesn't just happen on eBay. IKEA tried to charge me $190 to have a desk shipped from their store. WTF! I live like 5 miles from MOA. And the DESK cost less than that. What a rip off.
