...taken from another forum, but still very applicable:

And no, I'm not talking about every question that's been asked, some of them are very relevant and cover new topics of discussion. I'm talking about the questions that have been brought up eleventy million times already, some of the answers can even be found on the same page that the new thread was just posted on because someone else just asked the same question. These cars have been around long enough that there isn't a whole lot of new ground to cover, and the information is out there and accessible with just a quick search.

People sure do like to answer the repeated questions and show what they know, if you are annoyed by the same questions over and over skip it, dont waste valuable time. :eek3:  :eek4:

I have no problem answering questions, but it's when we see the same questions over and over and over that it gets old. Don't you find it just a bit satisfying to find the answer on your own and in the process learn more about it? A lot of us on the board have had to do our own searches, and our own research and by doing that we've learned a lot. I don't mind imparting my own knowledge, but it'd be nice if people put a little more effort into it. The current Impreza platform has been around for 6 years, even the STI has been around for 4. There isn't a whole lot that hasn't already been covered.

There is nothing wrong with asking something that has been asked before. But when it's obvious that you have not done any research whatsoever, and just expect all of these people to answer your questions for you - that is when it gets old.

Some things are very simple and easy to find with a search. Some other things are not.

Still, i search before I ask.

I just posted this in another thread:

    http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=533787

I would bet probably 70-90% of every question would either be partially or fully answered there. I would say, as a general rule, at least read the manifesto in regards to any question before starting a new thread at any subaru board large or small (this one included).

    Exactly :)

If you've been searching and you still can't find the answer, then go ahead and ask. But to just blindly throw it out there because you're too lazy to look it up is when it gets annoying. And asking "What part is best?" isn't going to help you much, because every one of us on here has a different setup on their car for a different reason, and every vendor has their own reason for designing a part the way it is. You're better off asking yourself a question (and be honest with yourself): What do you want out of the car? Once you have a goal in mind, you can find a part that will help you achieve that. Want to rallyx the car? Think twice about finding that super low set of springs. Want tons of power? Look at a larger exhaust, bigger turbo, fuel injectors, etc. A lot of the time, the brand name is up to you. Some of this is just common sense, and a little research would save a lot of time and money.

And with Unabombers Manifesto, there isn't much of an excuse anymore to not search. It's a great resource that I find myself re-reading from time to time.

also, dont make stuff up, like "the dealership said this and the dealership said that" dude we know you didnt go and ask them, if you did they would have given you an answer, such as "we dont have them in stock" or "those would work" we should re-name this thread the (zomg tux follow these rules)

I dunno about you guys but our search button sucks, if you try to search something, it throws like 1000 random things at you.

I usually stick to Nasioc or I-club if I need to look up technical stuff, Unabombers Manifesto is THE best source for the majority of the answers you need. Otherwise, there are usually more users in each of their technical forums at any one time than are usually browsing our entire site. A quick search on Nasioc will usually give you enough material to spend a few minutes to a few hours reading and reseaching.
