Figured Im not the only snowboarder on here, so... Why not combine snowboarding and subaru's at some point this year. A spirit trip would be pretty sick. Or we could go for a much longer drive and try out lutsen. Then again there are so many options. Lets skip hyland though. Afton alps, trollhaugen, spirit, or lutsen seem like the best options. +1 for getting snow on the drive out or on the drive back.
we tried something like this last year but it fell through.. id be game though.. BTW i had the cgm 05 rs last night at nathans with the magnaflow
nice man, your rs is real clean. I actually just finished picking out the magnaflow setup I'll be going with. Your exhaust sounded real good. I've got some borlas, so we'll see how it turns out, I'm pretty amped. I figured this would be an awesome idea for an event, just because no matter the size of the turn out, a few of us would be able to drive up together and hit up the slopes for a day or so. 5-10 cars would be perfect, it doesnt have to be some huge event. If it turns out to be a 10+ car thing, that'd be sweet too, but very unlikely. I've got a season pass to spirit too, so going there would be primo. Plus we could head up to scenic parkway for a little drive afterwards. I'll look on the calender and just pick out a weekend that would work and post it up. Probably sometime mid January. Dont wanna conflict with peoples christmas plans or the ice race.
Alright cool I'm gonna start by checking a calender and just see what would work best. Give me input on days of the week we should be going up. *friday night drive up, hotel one night, board sat, drive home saturday night *monday morning drive up, board all day and night, drive home sunday? *a one day trip? Sat REALLY early to sat night REALLY late?
I would vote for driving up Saturday afternoon, back late Sunday. or drive up early Sat. morning, and then people could choose to stay Sat. night or not.
Spirit is nice, Lusten is obviously better, but more expensive. I'd be up for either, but i'm sure i'll be out at Afton pretty much every weekend for those that live down here.
I think driving up early saturday morning and then allowing people to choose to stay sat. night would work the best. It would allow us to drive up as a group, seperate for the day, and then meet up and head back at a specified time. I figure if we meet at 9 AM on saturday at a central location on 35N, we could all drive up without anyone having to go out of their way. Then we could just plan on a sat. night drive home at 11pm. and then another optional sunday night drive home at like...6pm. Figuring out hotels and everything is probably best left to individuals as well, so that no one person is stuck being the bad guy who reserved 5 rooms and only 3 people stayed.
i'll be heading out to Mnt baker in seattle this year for a little ride time.... if anyone likes hardcore powder, fun all day runs, a constant source of waist deep powder, and long distance trips... thats the best place to be in my opinion, and i've been to a crapload of mountains out of state. however I would still join up for some Mn ice boarding... good times.
sounds like this trip may have enough interest to be worth while! Now should we consider lutsen? Its a 5 hour+ drive. I think we will probably decide more towards the trip just in case we HAVE to go to lutsen for good conditions.
I am planning to to skiing this winter, depending on where you guys decide to go, I might be able to tag along.
giants ridge is in Biwabik, close to grand rapids. last time i went there it was very skier friendly and not very boarder friendly but then again that was quite a few years ago. i prefer spirit over giants ridge.
Heres some food for thought: Lutsen: -Massive amount of runs, lots of snow, better chance for boarding/skiing powder. check them out at www.lutsen.com -I mapquested the trip time is 4:40 min and 265 miles from minnetonka, mn. -Lodging is fairly inexpensive, and their lift tickets per day are 27 dollars. thats almost 15 bucks cheaper a day than spirit. -are already making snow, want to be open by nov. 20 Spirit: -Long, but considerably less trails than lutsen, decent snow, pretty good park. Check them out at www.spiritmt.com -Mapquested trip time 2:40 min and 173 miles from minnetonka, mn. -Lodging is slightly more expensive, day passes are grossly over priced at $40. For those of us with season passes that wont be a factor. -have started making snow unsuccessfully, want to be open by nov. 23 Giants ridge: -Runs are a bit shorter, equal number of trails to spirit, good park. check them out at www.giantsridge.com/mountain -mapquested trip time is 3:40 min and 220 miles from minnetonka, mn. -lodging is priced the same as lutsen, lift tickets are once again grossly overpriced at $42 a day for adults. -have already started making snow, plan to be open by nov. 24. Afton Alps: -shorter runs, but massive amount of them. 3 terrain parks, ranging from intermediate to proffesional. Check them out at www.aftonalps.com -mapquested trip time is 50 min and 42 miles from minnetonka, mn. -lodging is cheap. lift tickets are priced a little high at 35 a day for weekends, and 25 a day during the week. Afton would be our option for a day trip. Let me know what you guys think. I'm going to check the calender soon and post up a date we can shoot for. I'm thinking sometime in mid december.
well, if you guys want to come to spirit. you can crash at my place. hell, you guys could crash here, and then drive up to lutsen from here.
chux, thanks for offering man. Alright, well then I'm just going to plan the trip out with that included. Okay, heres the dates that seem like they will work. This will avoid christmas and the ice race, and will give us a good month of solid snow and snow making weather for the resorts to get ready for our shreddage :naughty: The weekend of December 16-17th. That is a saturday morning drive up, leaving at 10am. We will be coming back sunday night, leaving at the close of the mountain, 9pm. Since chux has volunteered his place for us to crash at, we will be taking him up on that if the schedule fits his plans. What would work best as a meeting location? I think that a business close to the intersection of 694 and 35w would be best, as it would cut off any "out of the way" time for anyone making the drive up. We can also schedule in some stops on the way up for breaks, so that the guys further north can jump on board.
I've been to both Lutsen and Giant's Ridge. Lutsen is more skier oriented, but the runs are fairly long. Giant's Ridge is also nice, and they have an awesome park if snowfall is good enough. They have a bus to jump off of! When I went two years ago, they were building the ramp for it, but it wasn't done yet.
That weekend would probably work well with me, nothing major planned yet.... I only have one condition about staying here. no drunken shennanigans. (see the period?). it's a very tight neighborhood (I doubt there's more than 6 feet between houses on either side), and there are a couple people who I do not want to offend. I also don't want my house to smell like beer, and be a total pig sty afterward. I've had a couple bad experiences with large quantities of alcohol, and don't want a repeat. but I've got the stereo wired up throughout the entire house, I've always got some mikes hard ____ (usually berry), we can fire up the pizza oven, and the george forman, watch some movies...whatever. I've got 2 beds, and 2 couches, one of the couches folds into a queen size bed if you're comfortable with yourself. I've also got a pad that makes for a pretty nice single bed. and if that doesn't cut it, I've got a queen size airbed in the camping box in the basement, and my girlfriend's family has a bunch of cots we could borrow.... are you thinking of hitting the mountain both days? I just wonder, because 10am leaving from the cities, gets you here at ~1pm (taking into consideration you'll probably leave late, and have to make a stop or 2...depending on the size of the group). even if we spend zero time here, that's almost 3pm to lutsen, or 2pm to Giants ridge. I would think you guys would be better off leaving in the evening of a friday, sleeping over here friday night, getting up early saturday morning and driving up to ski/board, staying out all day, coming home saturday night. that way you guys could even sleep here saturday night, and drive home sunday.
