So just wanted to share a cool motoring event I'm going to in a month. The owner of my real estate brokerage has a father that is a retired race car driver and he recently decided to get back into racing. His first event will be the Rolex 24 hours of Daytona and he's been testing a new Porsche car since last summer. Me and a few guys from my office have been planning to go down and watch the race for months now. The plan has now gotten even better. Last week my boss called me to say his dad is short a few pit crew members and was wondering if we'd be interested in joining the team. Of course we all said yes. We won't be working on the car (as we would have no idea what we are doing) but rather running tires and handling fire extinguisher duties. I could really care less what we'll be doing, I just can't wait to experience the race from the pits. We even get to where full pit crew suites and a helmet if you're on fire extinguisher duty. Sweet! Here's a shot of the car... I'll plan to post some pics of the event when I get back in February.
You spawny git ! I've never seen a race at Daytona, but did stop off to visit while I was down that way one winter. The bus tour that takes you round stays below the line, but you can still see how incredibly steep the banking is. I'm sure you'll have a great time, and I look forward to seeing your pictures from the event.
Yes, my thoughts exactly! Counting down the days. Oddly enough I'll be in Miami for three hours tomorrow on a layover to Grand Cayman for the weekend. I haven't been to FL since I was 5 and now I'll be there twice in a month. Weird. The strangest thing however is that I was bummed about missing the first two GLQC Ice Events of the year which were the same weekends as these two trips and now it looks like they will both be cancelled anyway due to lack of ice. Crazy!
