Per my scangauge, I don't lose any MPG when I turn on the AC when I'm cruising. When at 65 MPH my MPG reading barely drops... two-tenths of a MPG at most.

Is it because I'm already making power at mid RPM that a slight increase in drivetrain loss doesn't consume more fuel?

What is this scangauge you talk about lately and how do we know it's accurate? Also, when you are cruising you are in closed loop fueling mode, meaning your ECU is targeting a stoich AFR no matter what.

You can find it here: http://www.scangauge.com/ I use it everyday, so I've been monitoring the numbers at every incline and load increase. Because I own it and I like what it does, I'm gonna be supportive of it. I'm not advertising for them; I was just curious what it read from my ECU.

you should try the same experiment but with the ac off and all your windows down. That will show you how much harder your car has to work due to the increased drag.

I'll try that, but I'll need to find a nice stretch of flat road to do it on. Any incline or decline skews the reading by changing the load to the engine.

Driving with all 4 windows down will drop the MPG by ~2 MPG. I was reading ~26 MPG on the gauge and the moment I dropped all 4 windows down, I got ~24 MPG.
