accessport shipping (updated 12/04/06) Again, new word from cobb.... The AP 2.0 has been delayed, and is currently on hold due to a bug in the programming. This bug does not effect the general function of the device in anyway, and they expect release / shipping of the AP within 2 weeks. This is not 100% and it "COULD" take longer, even though they don't expect it should. The positive side of this, is that more AP's are still being made, and they anticipate ALL orders up to the current date to shipped when they fix the bug, and there is currently NO backorder of the AP. The current 2.0 design should allow flashing of the ECU to be done in 5 minutes or less, has the abuility to store thousands of maps... and will come off the shelf with ALL available maps as of current, with an updated / revised version of stage 1, and stage 2. Launch control WILL BE A FEATURE, however will NOT be released when the AP launches. This is something they currently are working on, and will be based on rev limiter to wheel motion. They have currently only worked out a first gear rev launch. your rev wil be limited, and when a certain speed is reached the limit is removed. There will also be upcomming releases of maps with the most popular upgrades.... example.. spt intake - Invidia down - spt cat back - front mount - 20G upgraded turbo As far as what I have been told, the only turbo cobb is currently testing on is the 20g. I have been told that after the general shipment of the AP 2.0 are out, the work will then turn to the maps, and customization of the ap. this is all the info I have on the unit as of preasent.
according to cobb, theres a few happy improvements. ((now mind you I have Never played with the 1.0 so make you own assumtions)) main physical specs The new system has a larger hardrive and larger cpu and utilizes USB. main plug is smaller and designed to be further out of the drivers way. Full color screen ((some new technology type screen thats a world first)) Size of the unit. The units were designed to be firware upgradable through cobbs site as new technology rolls out, and new features can be added to the unit without purchasing a new one... Hence the more computer like design.... all maps and firmware can be again downloaded from cobbs site. The speed of flashing and programming has been cut in half and enhanced. This is all I can really report that isn't allread announced. My unit is comming in the first wave of units being sent out... so I Will post up a full review and opinion when I recieve it.
I read that not all features are ready so they will be doing updates later for some of that stuff. Read that on NASIOC I believe. The problem is, this is what I have been told, you have to use someone that has the very expensive Pro-Tuner software, on the order of $5000, to be able to even turn on some of the advanced features like launch control and anti-lag. If this is true I am not upgrading yet.
I really doubt you will have to find someone with more expensive stuff to unlock features... I do believe there was huge concern about the end user blowing up there car with the launch control tho.... so who knows, they might have locked it down unless you get a tune proving you can actually drive your car. I'm getting the unit to better my cars abuilitys... not to damage stuff trying to show off to some high schoolers.
I'm a little bit fuzzy on what launch control actually does. The way I understood it (and this was from reading about the mazdaspeed 3), it limited boost in gears 1 & 2 to reduce wheel spin. But with AWD is that even necessary? Or is it something thats programable so that you can just floor it at launch and the cpu just limits your throttle so that your launches are optimized (and consistant)?
it's my understanding that launch control for the subies.. basically just builds boost without load.... but this is just an assumption.
I was looking on there website. It looks like the removed all the old ap maps. It doesnt even look like you can download any maps anymore.
Great price! Now lets talk about some of the new Perrin products that your giving great deals on! Blow through boost tube? The new w/i kit?? SPEAK!
669 shipped on the new WI kit for you guys....dream pm me, as i owe you on one...i have 5 in stock...well 4 now ...sold 1 yesterday the boost tube isnt in stock yet...but i'll own of course....
well pm me and i'll make it a little bit sweeter...try to get that discount from anyone else...i bet im 30 bucks cheaper
i'm getting mine directly from cobb, it's being sent in the first shipment out... as i'm doing a review on it. so unless you have the unit in hand.. i would rather just wait a week till mine arrives.
let me know when you get yours in... I'll have you overnight me one if cobb doesn't first wave ship mine.
I doubt they will have it since something like that would require them to figure out how to reprogram the firmware of the entire ecu. Last I heard, Cobb hasn't even figured out the weird timing issues with the '06 WRX. With that said, I doubt they have added launch control or anything else like that. Also, anything like per-gear boost control isn't available with any of the usdm ecus.
Damn... I was really hoping they did reprogram parts of the logic to allow for launch control. It sounded that way when they first announced it... now its just a different looking unit.:hsugh:
I don't know if they did figure out how to reprogam the firmware or not. It is just speculation on my part. Either way, the new unit will be much better than the old one in terms of it's useability. The v1 was just too clunky and slow and had a POS cable.
There was a release posted on IWSTI that quoted Cobb saying launch control was in fact a feature of V2 but wasn't enabled for the time being.
That's cool regarding the launch control. I'll bet that this will be implemented into a realtime map as it looks like it's possible to manipulate what's stored in the ecu's RAM.
