Anybody knows anyone that sells acrylic sheets (not in bulk) and also cut them to size? I'm planning to make a sump tank system for my aquarium...
cope plastics, http://www.copeplastics.com/docs/index.html thats were I get my stuff. (but you may need a tax ID)
Its gonna be filled with water...and about 48x18x18, I think 1/4 in thick would be safer...i think roughly 50-55 gals.
not really custom...same price from another vendor in IL, but they produce them daily...that's there specialty I guess...different from ones that don't do this as an everyday thang...
How did you come up with 1/4"? I think I have seen tables for that somewhere while doing research for making acrylic vivariums and lids. If my memory serves me, 1/4" sounds kind of thin for the size of the tank. If you have access to a table saw, it is actually quite easy to cut the stuff to size.
I was talking to a few vendors majority of them said 1/4 in. remember it isn't a full fledge fish tank...it is similiar to a wet/dry/SUmp system...probably about 50% of it will be filled with water, after all the filter media... I have no access to a table saw,I may just have them cut it to the size I need...Doesn't cost a whole lot more...Don't u need a special acrylic blade to cut it with so that you don't crack while cutting it?
shibbs...better avatar... I was getting dizzy with the old one...lol if I really fill it (water), it is about 400+ lbs.
Sorry, I meant not that heavy for 1/4" Its not a very wide or deep tank, so I believe 1/4 would be fine. Although thicker on the bottom would never be a bad idea. More $$ tho.
actually the bottom would matter as much as the front and back of the tank...the bottom has the floor to support it, so it won't bow out like the F & B
No. I use a standard blade (can't remember the #) carbide tooth. You can get special blades for acrylic, but I've had good luck using mine, what I did was read the specs on the "special" blade, and found the closest one I could find at menard's.
whatever, we cut acrylic everyday, if the the specs are wrong, it will chip. I'm not saying go out and buy a diamond tip blade, you just have to know what your doing. not everyone has the RIGHT tools.
Ray, why don't you just mod a 55 gallon aquarium? That's what my brother did for his 235 gallon tank. And it should be much cheaper and less time consuming. How's $100, instead of $200? http://www.mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?p=366407#post366407
There you go "thinking" again.:laugh: You know that you put us ALL in danger when you do that! lol
