So, I'm buying a 2.5" scooby sport TBE out of the classifieds (great deal)...
I originally planned on going with a Cobb TBE with high flow cat, but at less than half the price, decided on picking up the scooby sport instead.

I tried googling for high flow cats of that size and found a few places selling them, but not much info on how to buy a correctly sized piece etc.

Anyone have any options? I think I've seen some people put a high flow cat in where the factory 3rd cat is, but don't seem to find any for sale...

    Last question on the topic:
How hot does the cat need to get to be effective? Or in other words, how far downstream can it go?

I might consider that, but I'm getting chronic codes for cat in-effeciency...so the stockers gotta go...

So you have the stock cat in place and you are getting a code?? What cats do you have in the car??

basically, the closer the cat is to the motor (ie hotter exhaust), the more efficient it will be. That is why the 02-03 bugeye had better emmisions than a honda civic (stock for stock) in those model years. The wrx is running 3 cats and 1 is pre-turbo. That first cat is glowing red hot all the time. At the same point in time, the closer the cat is to the motor, the more performance you will loose.

I'm totally stock at the present...parts are on order though.

I'll try the exhaust as is, but I don't really care for the smell of unburnt fuel...

Oh, and it is an 02'...

    Yeah, that's what I'm buying...
If I can't figure out a way to put a cat on it, so be it, but I know there is a high flow cat that could be put in the pipe just after the downpipe somewhere...I think I seen one in an MRT ad once...will have to search more later when I have time...

I think I've found a few options, ranging from $350-500, that might work...I'll most likely run it as is for a while, at least;)

Yeah, that occurred to me, I know a lot of people probably saw this thread and thought

Haven't decided if I'll use it as is, or add a cat, but thought I'd share this link in case someone else thinks of going this route.

I like the looks of the maddad "2nd cat" pipe here:

    http://www.iwsti.com/forums/engine-power-exhaust/79817-secret-best-exhaust.html
I like the looks of it, because I would bet it would pass a visual inspection if I ever have to go through that.
In my search, I also found a high flow cat up-pipe...

I want to have a cat, but I'm thinking I want it farther downstream than in the downpipe, for flow and heat (in the engine bay) reasons... cats generate some heat as they burn off, or catylize (is that a word?) the fuel, or do they not?
