Hey guys...I haven't posted on here in a while due to work closely monitering internet usage :(

Anyway, I need some advise on a ticket I got on the way in to work. I was pulled over for rolling a stop sign, but was given a ticket for having my old address (parent's current address) on my license instead of my new apartment.

My cube mate at work said that I should be able to get out of it by telling the courthouse (or whoever I need to tell) that as of right now that is the most permanent address I have due to me just being out of college and moving around so much.

    Is this true?

That won't fly. If that were the case, you would've told the cop that your address was what was on your license.

IMHO, the best way to "get out" of that ticket is to go down to the DMV immediately and get everything updated before your ticket contest meeting. Then let them know that you honestly didn't know about the law (most people don't) and that you got everything updated.

that should work, however given the fact that the cities are hurting for money my bet would be the judge says tough and makes you pay the fine.

What address do you use to file your taxes? Are you still declared as a dependent on your parents taxes? If that is the case then your Permanent address could be considered your parents place. In which case you "mis spoke" when speaking to the officer. And in this case i would be willing to bet the judge still says tough and makes you pay the fine.

He never asked for my permanent address...he just asked if I'm still living at the address listed on the license.

Oh well, I'll just pay the fine, get a new license and move on with my life :)

Ya, especially now that I found out I have to go downtown Minneapolis to the court house and wait in line to talk to a hearing officer!

They don't make it easy for people who have 9-5 jobs...huh?

Hmmm, that's not what the lady on the phone said. Does the Ridgedale location have a court?

Why don't you set up a date to meet with the probation officer? Don't just pay the full price of the ticket, try to get it reduce or pay to be on a one year probation. (by promise you won't speed again)

BTW don't go to court because you are not going to win this case.....

Wow you run bad. I've lived in Minnesota for 3 years now and I still have my Indiana license. I've been pulled over 4 times since I've lived here and I just tell them that I live in Indiana half the year and they don't ever question it.

this happened to my wife 2 weeks before we got married. they pulled her over in front of our house, then asked her why her address still said she lived in St Louis, MO.... she told the officer she was getting married in 2 weeks and had to get a new license because of the name change so she didn't want to order a license that would not be delivered in the mail before she had to order a new license.

we had to pay the fine.... stupid COPS! as if my wedding wasn't expensive enough!

Its all in how you talk to them. When I was in school in Duluth, I had a Renville DL. Get pulled over, "Is this your current address?" I would always say that is my Primary address, as I am in school. Same thing when I lived in Hutchinson.

I always used to say " just moved" even though I had moved twice since that address.... Always worked, Only reason I changed it was because I got my motorcycle license.

I've lived at 3 different places between my parents place and my current apartment and been pulled over a few times in there. I've never had an issue either, but I think it helped when I said that I was in school.

Anyway, it's kind of a blessing in disguise because I think the cop was trying to find something to bust me for besides the not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign.

So, does anyone know if I can talk to someone at the Ridgedale courthouse about this...or does it have to be in Minneapolis?
