Advance Car Control Clinic @ DCTC May 7 - Update: FULL Driving Schools - Advanced Car Control Clinics • Advanced Car Control Clinics - These are (relatively) low speed events designed to teach braking, cornering, and general car handling in a safe environment. We set up slalom, braking, emergency lane-change, and cornering exercises and then a 1-mile course combining skills learned. These clinics are great for: New drivers (must have a valid license or drivers permit - under 18 must have a signed parental consent) New car - get used to that new car (or tires or suspension) in a safe environment Refresher - every other year wouldn't hurt any driver; we forget the basics, we get sloppy. This is a tune up! Preparatory - we require one of these courses before going to one of our Performance Driving Schools for the first time. -Advanced Car Control Clinic Dakota County Technical College Looking for more time behind the wheel to hone your driving skills? We'll have a 1-mile course set up at DCTC with in-car instruction and classrooms. The learning experience will also include scheduled time riding with your instructor. Driving experience of all levels welcome! From first-timers (we'll start with basic exercises and have novice classrooms) to those with extensive advanced experience (lots of seat time with an instructor and advanced classrooms). It will be a low-speed event (55mph limit on an active "2nd gear course"), so minors with a parental consent form & convertibles WILL be allowed; and helmets & shop tech inspections will not be required. Price for the day is $100 (North Star Chapter membership required). Day includes 1 session of warm-up exercises, 6 sessions driving & 3 sessions riding the course, 4 classrooms, continental breakfast and lunch for each student. Instructors please plan to have a course-worthy vehicle ready for plenty of "instruction by example" (at least 3 sessions with each student). To volunteer to help (please?) or if you have any questions, please contact Chris Koehler at [email protected] -Overview: Are you interested in learning more about how your car reacts at the limits, or how you would react in an emergency situation? Have you thought about attending our driving school at Brainerd, but are still a little intimidated by the higher speeds? Would you like to help your significant other become a better, more confident driver? Well, now is your chance! Imagine knowing what to do when your car begins to slide, or being in control during that panic stop. Car control skills are learned skills that can only be improved with practice and seat time, and this will be a chance to experience plenty of seat time in a safe, controlled environment. Our Clinics are open to all club members wanting to learn more about enhancing driver skills and understanding the capabilities of their cars. Not a member? Call 800-878-9292. (membership not required for Women's-Only school 5/23). Our goal is to prepare you with a fundamental foundation of skills from which you can further develop your driving abilities, and to advance those fundamental skills to the next level. Each participant receives personalized instruction provided by experienced club Instructors. All you need to attend is a car in good mechanical condition and the $100 per driver registration fee. All participants must register in advance. Registration can be performed through our website or by submitting the enclosed form in the mail. Two driver cars are allowed (let us know whom should be in the advanced/novice group). If you have further questions after reading this information, please contact by email at [email protected]. -Program Synopsis: The day long event will consist of both classroom instruction and driving exercises. Morning exercises are prefaced with a short classroom about concepts specific to the each exercise. The drills include a slalom course, threshold braking, accident avoidance simulation, and course familiarization with your instructor in the car. In these exercises you will learn the proper use of the steering wheel, brakes, and throttle as elements of car control. We want all students to increase their awareness for what their car is doing under a variety of circumstances, and why. These exercises are intended to better prepare you for situations that may be encountered when at speed on the track, as well as everyday driving. The classroom sessions are an integral part of the learning experience, with concepts immediately utilized in the car and terminology used by your instructor. Downloading and studying the Driving Manual in advance will greatly enhance your understanding and will help you get more out of the experience. Advanced group classrooms will both review and build on the fundamentals. The rest of the day is a progression of tying those exercises together in a one-mile course from behind the wheel and by example riding with your instructor. Each session will include 15 minutes of repeatedly running the course and 5 minutes of changing-over groups, resetting cones, etc. By repetition of the same course like in our Advanced Driving Schools, one can 1) hone smooth inputs, 2) extended vision, and 3) consistency to make proper techniques a habit. Our objective is to improve your awareness to vehicle dynamics, provide you with enhanced driving skills, and produce safe and controlled drivers. Safety and being in control is our top priority at this and all Club driving events. -School Procedures: Registration: Registration must be made in advance by filling out and submitting an on-line application or mailing in the form to the address listed on the form. Each driver must register separately. Payment should preferably be made via PayPal, alternately we will accept a check mailed in. Mailed in applicants will be confirmed via e-mail (if supplied). Please download the Driving Manual. Completed parental consent form required for participation by minors (no exceptions). Schedule: Please plan to arrive at the site and have your car prepared & unloaded before we start promptly at 8:00AM for the mandatory Driver's Meeting. Instructors will re-inspect your car with you before the first classroom session. The school is scheduled to run until 5:00PM followed by post-event instructor rides. The school will be conducted rain or shine, so be prepared accordingly. We will have a lunch break of not more than one hour with lunch provided. Vehicles and Technical Inspections: All vehicles in good mechanical working condition will be allowed at this event. Convertibles will also be allowed to participate. All cars must have operating seatbelts or harnesses. If there is a question about the appropriateness of your vehicle, please contact Chris Koehler at 651.264.5974. In the interest of safety for all the participants, technical inspections will be performed on all cars by your instructor with you prior to the start of the school. Things that will be looked at will include tire condition and pressure, functional brakes, leaking fluids, secure battery, and loose items in the car. Please ensure that all loose items are removed from the car AND trunk before the school (including floor mats). Anything loose in the car has the potential to become a projectile! Helmets: are NOT required to participate in this school. Preparation: Rolls & juice will be on hand, but recommend a complete breakfast before arriving (my Mom would be proud). Lunch will be provided. It will be very important that you stay hydrated: recommend water & sports drinks, and avoiding caffeine. You will have to empty your car of all loose items - bring a tarp and/or container to protect your stuff from the elements. Recommend jeans, long-sleeve shirt, sunscreen, etc. (common sense stuff). Make sure you have a full tank of gas and that your tire pressures are on the high side of what's recommended on the door pillar. Please consider: • You should read and understand the above article BEFORE registering. • Both students for 2-Driver cars (one car shared by two students) must submit separate applications - we ask for the "name of driver sharing the car" only to ensure both students are not in the same run group! If you have any interest in any or all of these schools, contact coordinators listed below. And if you would like to volunteer - bless you! - and contact the appropriate person listed below. All of our schools require a valid driver's license. Drivers under the age of eighteen require a signed parental consent form. We don't have one Driving Events Coordinator; we have multiple people responsible for these schools. Please keep in mind this is a CAR CONTROL and NOT A RACING SCHOOL. What we are teaching and emphasising is all about maintaining control. We'll allow you to lose control at your own descrition and teach you to regain control in a controlled enviornment. Though this is not a racing school, for those who are looking to get some idea's to improve your racing needs, there is a large base of experienced Instructors with a wide background of Motorsports that you can be paired with, based on your own experience level and interests. Its summer and I hope to see more Scoobies out at the event! "Back to the basics!"
Will there be anymore of these comming up? because if you can do it on a drivers permit, definatly count me in.

I'm hoping to be there again. Had a blast the last two times. Depends on what my schedule ends up being. Should know in a week or so.
Matt, I hope to see you out there again, I had a great time working with you. I usually get to the event way early to help setup the course and yes to play on the course before the event starts. I plan on bring out the STI w/Cobb stg2 for some Touge fun w/my bimmer friends! Hope to see some Scooby's out there!
Sorry I can't make this one... see you guys in July! Also, the money is completely relative to the investment you're protecting by participating. Spend some mod money on the meatball behind the wheel and you and your vehicle will have long happy lives. Just my no BS 2 cents.
