I purchased a "pre-owned" AEM boost gauge from a member on here a few months ago. I didn't have a gauge pod for it until tonight. I wired up the gauge and tested it prior to tucking all of the wires away and it lit up and did the gauge sweep. Figured I had this thing dicked. I hooked up vacuum lines and got everything zip-tied into place and figured I'd go for a ride and see how she works. Well, it doesn't! it goes through its gauge sweep and then reads --- and doesn't read boost or vacuum. Right after that I go to google and find out that there has been a bad batch of sensors for these gauges. Anyone have any experience with this, I'd appreciate any help on this matter. This is why I hate buying used ****!!!!!!! Thanks in advance.
Yeah used gauges always worries me as well. Did you double check for boost leaks? Mine read zero like yours when i had a leak.
Mine doesn't even read zero, it reads --- I double checked for boost leaks and found none. I'm going to have to purchase a new MAP sensor for $58.00, now I will have as much invested into this as if I had pruchased it new.
I need to get this one to work or I'm out what I paid for it. It's not about the money, it's the principal behind it that pisses me off.
Update: The new MAP sensor arrived today and low and behold the damn thing still reads ---. I am using the wires from my OEM boost gauge and hooked the boost line for the AEM sensor to the same "T" that my old gauge was hooked to. WTF! I'm stumped.
Well assuming that the wires are good, then I would say your gauge is the problem and not the sensor. The only other thing I can think of is that it is setup wrong.
The gauge has 4 wires, a hot and a ground and then two other wires that are used for data logging. Tonight I checked the hot and ground with a multi-meter and the black wire reads 12 volts and the ground is good. I re-connected everything and it still doesn't work. I pulled the boost hose off of the sensor to make sure there were no leaks, with the car running and the vacuum makes it stick to my finger. The only other thing I can think to do is find someone that has a functioning gauge and see if it works on my set-up. Could I have possibly gotten another bad sensor? I have 14 days to return it to the guy I bought it from.
Steve I have one in my car. If you wanna stop by after the dyno I can look at it. Im in crystal by 100
Thanks to Nick AKA Gimp for bringing a AEM Boost gauge to Dyno Days for me to test. Found out that my gauge is junk! Everything worked just fine on his new one. Just my luck!!!!
You damn right! You wanna buy a used AEM digital boost gauge? I know a guy who knows a guy that has one and it works great
I should see if I can turn it into a clock or something. What does one do with a non-functioning gauge?
I think I saw something on NASIOC about that. I may have to look into it! That would look cool in a clock pod set-up.
