Some guys complain about the MAF getting dirtier faster, because of the lube on the K&N and Perrin filters. I still like my Perrin, cheaper then the K&N, and reusable!

yes and no. Most of the people that have issues with oil filters like K&N have them because they were improperly cleaned and oiled. If there's too much oil on the filter it can mess up the MAF sensor.

I've had a K&N for a long time with no issues, but I'm careful when cleaning it, oiling it, and then letting it dry before re-installing in the car.

for a moderately priced high flow air filter K&N is pretty good.

Sounds like a lot of work. :( Might as well keep it stock.
And there's an easy way to test whether a K&N is worth the price: log the MAF before and after.

+1 to that. No real world gains to be had by using an after market panel filter... not to mention the possible over oiling issues.

Yup, I've done that....and didn't notice any gains in airflow. Plus the one quasi-scientific test I've seen regarding the K&N vs a bunch of other filters showed that the K&N's flow qualities drop through the floor once it gets dirty. Add in the fact that it can't hold nearly as much dirt as a paper filter and that it lets a lot more crap through and it became pretty obvious to me that it wasn't worth it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again....

better filtration > .0000000001% better flow
