I found a link on how to remove it, but do I have to plug anything after I remove it. And if I do what should I use?:eek4:

I just left mine open. It's not like that factory "ram air" style does much anyway. Cold air from the fender ftw.

That's not exactly true. Someone did logging (on IWSTI) with it on/off and a SRI and found the coldest temps were had with the ram air funnel on. Conscientious was more fresh air being delivered.

Hrm. I left the funnel on, but removed the silencer, as I wold think that would be the best of both worlds. You got a link to that study?

The GPmoto elbow works better than removing the airbox altogether as the front ram air really does work, however it doesnt make as much noise as disconnecting the snorkus and just running a hole in the airbox.

^^that may be true, but I wonder about volume of air with the RAM scoop in place. I think the air has too navigate up through the grill (some of it), up and past the hood, and then through the ram to the elbow, then on to the airbox. VS. into the airbox from the fender well.

So after all this chatter, when I remove the silencer should I plug it or not. Will water get up in there or is it safe. I am not doing it for a "increase" of power, I just dont want to lose any.:eek3:

I've never had issues running straight from the fender well to the airbox. plugging the hole to the engine bay will look cleaner. Otherwise, just leave the RAM scoop in for the stock look.

so, no....you don't have to plug the hole
