So I got an alignment at Tires Plus last week and just noticed that they Glued Weights on the inside of my wheels! Is this normal? On 1 of them it looks like they tried to glue some in different spots and failed, now there are random glue chunks everywhere. WTF!?
First problem... going to Tires Plus for anything. Second problem... Glue? WTF is right. Weights are either pounded on or have double-sided tape. Glue? Take it back and make them clean it up!
The "glue" marks are likely adhesive that is still left on the wheels from where they peeled the old weights on. The new ones aren't glued on, they are stuck on with adhesive tape.
I hear that man. I really only go to tires plus for allignments. Yeah I am pretty sure its glue. When I de-badged my car, the glue crap that is underneath the badges is the same stuff they used for the weights it seems like. I will have to bring it back and have them clean it up and find a new allignment place.
That isnt glue its tape. if they re-balanced your wheels too then that is your old tape weight residue.
OK, step back. You said you had an alignment done. Did you pay for them to balance the wheels also? The balancing wouldn't automatically be part of the alignment. If they just did the alignment, and not a balance, they would not have messed with your wheel weights at all.
Nope. I didnt get a wheel balance at all. Hmmmm. I will have to give them a call. I wasnt charged for it so maybe they accidently did it HAH.
They should have used double sided tape as stated above Mine are double sided tape, had them replaced as well and I had to clean up the residue from the tape If its glue then thats a different story
this sounds perfectly normal to me. stick on weights when removed will look like they were glued. they probably had trouble with balancing and had to relocate the weights
LOL, no tire tech is going to take the time to clean the PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) off your rim. If they are and the manager finds out, he would put an end to that. Tires Plus completely depends on the staff at that particular store. I've had bad luck with the TP in Duluth, but I trust the Savage store a lot. I have had several alignments, mount/dismounts, etc. I know the lead mechanic there. I've had small independant shops and even dealers mess stuff up before. Cripes, I had a dealer break three wheel studs on one wheel torquing it down.
There is nothing wrong with Tires Plus, it's just the idiots who work there. Carl is most likely right, they had to relocate the weights. Call them, I bet that's what they tell you. You can remove the adhesive residue. That's all it is, that crap usually looks like white glue when it dries.. or if it gets wet it can dry looking like super glue. Especially since they have to use the extremely sticky stuff. Touch it, if it's still sticky it's not any sort of super glue. All adhesives are glue though... but i'm sure it's really nothing to worry too much about.
Well it seems to be extremely ridiculous to worry about something that is probably all over the wheels to begin with... find out why it's there and get rid of it. *shrug*
Maybe my expectations are high. I'm treated very well when I go to Discount Tire in Rochester.
Not a technical difference. Glue and adhesive are synonyms. Or at the very least, glue is in the family of adhesives. The terms are used interchangeably. Glue: 3. any of various other solutions or preparations that can be used as adhesives. 4. a substance that causes something to adhere, as glue or rubber cement. n. A substance, such as paste or cement, that provides or promotes adhesion. Originally made from animal products, for sure. Not much animal glue in use today. mmmmmm... delicious paste.
I'll agree with you here, for sure. That's the same reason I don't shop at Best Buy. I would say, however, that if a company routinely hires morons there is something wrong with more than just the employees.
