Hello everyone. I was involved in a hit and run today on hwy 100 north just south of excelsior blvd around 130 this afternoon. The car that hit me was a silver audi wagon driven by an older guy with a gotee. I was unable to get a plate number....Please if anyone saw this take place please message me! Thanks!!!!!
help us out - Audi Wagon... newer gen, older? A4, Allroad, A6? Anything special about the car? did you get any number off the plates at all? What happened?
I really feel for you on this one. I was involved in a hit and run too that left me with a totaled car when the other drove off. If you didnt get the plate in time it is probably a lost cause tbh. good luck to ya though
do you know with which part of the car he hit you with? we can be on the lookout for a car matching that description with the damaged area as well. That might narrow it down a bit too
Hey all thanks for the replies! It was an older silver audi allroad with the dark grey trim maybe 2004 or so. He most likely will have damage to his front passenger right side. My car is world rally blue so it should stick out on his car. Going to edina pd this morning to fill out a police report. I wasnt able to get a plate number because it happened so fast... taking a wild guess here on the plate number MN 396-DBH most likely wrong but its a start. Car looked exactly like this photo.
My advice to you (or anyone else reading) would be this: next time, call them right away and get them in the area. It's much harder to make a case the following day, but it's not to say that it's impossible either. One thing that they can do is send a notification to all of the body shops in the area to be on the lookout for a car matching that description to come in. I hope this works out and they catch the bastard, hit and run assholes are just below pond scum on the evolutionary scale.
Yea I called state parol right away after I got off on 36th street to try to loop around and they told me without a plate they cant do anything.... they also said if anyone calls that would help but I havent gotten a call from them yet today.
Minneapolis police was not able to help me out much since myself or any of the bystanders didn't get a plate number to the car that totaled my corolla back in 2007. I am guessing if they get any leads with the plate you mentioned above you may have some luck otherwise youll probably be SOL. Which really sucks. I know I have been there. I will make you a promise though once i get back in town if i see this car im following him and kicking his ass.
Jake has a point, I'd recommend letting him do it. One of our members had the sweetest hit and run story I can think of, he spun out on 494 during a snow storm and a minivan t-boned him and then took off. He wasn't able to see a plate and his car was totaled. The next morning, while his car was at the shop they realized that the minivan had left their front plate embedded in his car. He handed it over to State Patrol, who promptly went and knocked on their front door.
I know it is a lot of work but you could try calling around the most popular body shops in the metro area to see if that particular car has been in for an estimate/body work. Sometimes they try to get it fixed ASAP to hide the evidence. You might have some luck there. One odd but possibly effective place is facebook or craigslist (small work so you might be able to track them down via facebook).
There is a car like this at my office, an All-Road tinted out and with a crappy exhaust, I will check it out on my way out.
I will keep my eyes peeled I drive a lot for work - maybe drive that area again around the same time and see if its a route for him
This is a bit of a misnomer. There are plenty of cases that go to court, or accidents where clear fault is determined. I have personal experience receiving restitution from someone that was clearly at fault when the accident case went to court in St. Paul. Aside from that, a bonafide hit-and-run is another matter, well beyond no-fault law.
I've been in two hit and runs, first one I stayed in the area and called the cops. Never got that guy. Second one I followed the guy, and called the cops during the low speed chase through Bloomington. I was updating them on his position, and finally they had like 7 squads block him in. Stupid thing was the police couldn't arrest him, because they didn't see it happen. I had to fill out a citizens arrest form, but I did get insurance money from his company. I don't know what happened on the court date, but his Saturn front end looked a lot worse than my jeep rear(with hitch). Moral of the story I guess is, if possible, follow the ass hole that hit you! I'm not in that area too much, but I'll be on the look out....not cool.
Ok, I thought of something the other day and you might (read might) have a small chance of identifying the plate. See if you can access the MNDot cameras around the time of the accident (or along Hwy 100) to see if you can spot the car. If you are lucky you might have one with a shot of the license plate. Nail in a Haystack (better than a needle) but something to try out.
I work off of 100. I'll keep my eyes open on my commute. Too bad he didn't rear end the deuce. Would be easier to find.
Already have mndot footage. The quality is like it was shot with a potatom but the video shows him forcing me off of the road. Ill keep you all posted as I find out more. But right now that is all I can say.
MN no fault law has absolutely nothing to do with who is responsible for an accident. It is to keep lawyers at bay when it comes to medical bills and going to court.
This is from a StarTribune article yesterday on uninsured motorists: Kulda said the state should also consider reforming its insurance system. Minnesota is one of 12 states with “no-fault” insurance. The law requires insurance companies to pay up to $20,000 for medical expenses, regardless of who’s at fault in an accident. About 40 states have a tort law system. In these states, the at-fault party pays for damages and if disputes arise, they are adjudicated. To curb its rate of uninsured motorists, Colorado rescinded its no-fault law more than a decade ago, switching to the more common tort law system. “These changes were significant factors in lowering the price of insurance to Colorado residents and, therefore, lowering the rate of uninsured motorists,” Minnesota’s 2006 legislative report said.
Im not sure if you are adding to what I said or arguing. But yes, the $20,000 for medical expenses AND $20,000 for lost wages if involved in an auto accident, REGARDLESS of who is at fault. No fault is strictly an insurance thing and not a law as to who is responsible in a crash. without no fault insurance coverage, or Personal injury protection coverage, you have to essentially deal only with the person who hit you's insurance company to pay your medical bills and they will fight every one of them. --not from paper, but from 8 years in the industry as an Insurance Agent
No, not arguing...adding to what you said as support for your answer. I know you are in the insurance bidness. Just thought it was a coincidence that this was in the media yesterday. I think a lot of people have the wrong impression of what "no-fault" means in auto insurance. I also found it interesting that there are only 12 states with this type of insurance.
lol, I hear ya! When I sold imsurance in Colorado you have an extra coverage for medical payments. Having no fault makes insurance cost more. A lot of people think they can crash and no one is at fault.
I guess my post came out wrong.. I was merely saying either way your insurance will cover it and eventually if they track down teh guy they will go for his insurance or him... besides that I hope he is caught and the cops haul his ass to town... but typically he would get a slap on the wrist with how the laws follow thru nowadays... main thing is you are alive.. cars can be replaced
