What in the heck is that thing on the hood of Japanese cop cars that looks like a cheesy bug deflector? I have searched all over the internets and can't find out anything! Arrgh

    Probably west of you.
I'm guessing it deflects the air off of the windshield and light bar.

My 6 cylinder makes 1250 lb/ft of torque.
Airflow director of some sort would be my guess, very bad placement on the Subaru though.

    Ted, that's a Mitsubishi, not a Nissan ;)

the first huge pic is a nissan r34 gtr (skyline)
the second one is a mitsu. gto (3000gt)

and i have no idea what the deflector is for, but i guess no one gets away from the cops in japan with squad cars like those!

Is it something to do with pedestrian safety? Very similar to the active system in the nissan gtr?

Looks like a bug deflector to me.

Back in the day, Cops didn't even bother once you're passed a certain mark. You'd be amazed at how fast 50 mph feels on a narrow Japanese highway. I can understand the police not wanting to engage in a 100mph chase... let physics and darwinism take their course.

I wouldn't be surprised if it doubled as a bug deflector/HUD. I've never been inside a Japanese patrol car to know tho :dunno: Stupid placement for a HUD unit tho... they usually work better projecting onto the windshield from the inside.

    No guns in Japan.

Police cars here are only factory tuned. If you can do better than 180K they can't catch you, so they don't even try.
