Would any one like to do a fall Drive and Brewery tour? One of these?? http://www.leinie.com/av.html http://www.summitbrewing.com/ http://mnbeer.com/breweries/ Who is in charge of "Club" event planning? Would People like to do this? Maybe even a cheese factory or something too? If any one thinks this would be a fun thing to do, post here!!
it's the beginning of july. you should have started this thread in march, that's how slow mnsubaru is lol
ok maybe it should be called Winter Brewery Tour or Late fall tour??? Maybe just get it rolling for a spring drive and tour??
anyway, I would be down - leinie's sounds good to me! (may or may not be at the aug rallyx - depends on what I decide to do about when I go up north)
LOL! I've heard the Leinie's tour is fun, if we get a structured group it might be a more in depth tour I'd really like to see this happen! as long as i get to be in front of Carl or behind Carl by at least 25-30 ft.!
There are a few fall "fun runs" planned each year, they're usually not planned too far in advance. But, I'm sure you could find some people interested in doing a drive plus a tour. Especially a beer tour, I've heard some people around here like beer. As far as club event planning, anyone can plan and host an event. So, if you want to make it happen, go for it! To make it an official club event (like the LaCrosse Cruise), talk to Josh (tangledupinblu), he's the elected MNSOC social director, he could give you more info on what official event requirements would be.
i have been thinking about touring some breweries as well. the only downside is a group of cars driving all over, drinking and driving back. Limo service?
also, there is a brewery i'd like to visit and sample some of their beers. http://www.threefloyds.com/ i here their dreadnaught IPA is excellent, also their dark lord :yumyum:
I'm happy to hear this could be a well liked road trip! we would save the heavy drinking for later in the evening?
I'm headed here now, to pick up 3 growlers of beer (6 liters!!) only $10 per growler to refill. http://www.dasbierhaus-wi.com/
I could be interested as well...especially if it fell on a cooler weekend this fall (my boats on White Bear take up every nice weekend!!)
alternatively or in addition, you guys could come up and sample some duluth microbrews-- Lake superior, Thirsty pagan, and the Brew house.
Maybe a list needs to be made of some routes, maybe this could be a place for people to post their "Beer Tour" direction ? and then after a few are up we could pick one, I'm up for any direction, I'll put together a western Wisconsin tour route would some one like to do a northern Minnesota one , maybe a twin cities tour? or a tour over near New Ulm , start listing I'll check the thread and make additions to the first page of what areas we have listed. this would ideally be day trips with possible over nights. Richard D.
I'm definitely interested in this. I'll try to keep an eye on the thread. Beer + driving is a problem, true. Call me a driving nerd, but I'd probably stick to tiny tastings so I can still drive. Subie Love!
As many of you know i'm the local homebrewer on the site. Of course i'd be interested in anything around brewing beer. I've been to leine's a few times so I'd probably pass on that, but I want to hit up Surly (which is biking distance from my house. w00t!) along with shell brewing and summit. As for the driving thing, I'm not game for drinking and driving of course. But if there would be a core group of people that would go along it could be fun. Everyone takes turns being the sober cab and having "tiny tastings" like jamusix said. If this really kicks off I'd be more then willing to have a pre-tour demo of homebrewing at my house. It could be a crash course in brewing 101 so you'd have a little more idea of what is going on. The way I brew homebrews is on a much smaller scale then the big boys. If some people do want to learn about homebrewing and what it takes, we'll have to do that atleast 1 day before. Homebrewing from start to finish takes about 3 to 4 hours the first day. (total time from "raw goods" to drinking it takes about 8 hours of your time plus anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months for fermenting depending on the type of beer). I've been itchin to homebrew again here soon so if there's just a group of people that are interested in that feel free to PM me. Maybe I'll get a thread going on it. I know in the past Curly and Shibbs have joined me for some homebrewing fun.
You've been holdin' man! Moar barleywine! A fall pedal to the Saturday Surly tour would be excellent! I strongly suggest another drive down to LaCrosse. You can always hang a left and take back roads to New Glarus...
