I went bowling with some people last night, included in the crowd were 3 guys who work at RS Motors in St Paul. One of them (Scottie, if any of you have met him before) drives a silver WRX that he bought salvaged.

He says they are getting a Mustang dyno in 4 weeks. All the financing is taken care of, they are just waiting for it to arrive. Their guys are going to training somewhere, and then doing TurboXS training as well.

That's the latest from the horse's mouth.

Well Joel, it's good to have a few choices around town. Todd's shop is getting one... Propulsion's finalizing theirs... and RS Motorspot.

We'll be the land of 4WD dyno!

Well, it's about time! I don't know if the other shops will tune cars as well as Todd will... :p

Perpulshun (or however they spell it, I know it's wrong) = RS Motors

EDIT: I have heard them referred to as both. Maybe that was wrong of whoever said, but in any case, we're talking about the same place.

Doesn't the mustang dyno tend to read a little higher too?

My understanding is that Mustang dynos read lower than anything.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but any dyno can read high or low if they are incorrectly calibrated.

Jordan, that is part of it, but the dyno itself will read a bit lower. The mustangs are drum dyno's, so there are alot of little things that can make up for a bad run. In my personal opinion, for a 4 wheel dyno, I would only use a dyna pack, there is NO chance of it coming off the syno (unless you didn't bolt on the hub adapters). Drum roller dynos are gong to read lower due to the fact that you have tire to roller contact, and they are LOUD.

Russ, thanks for the clarification.. Yes it seems like the best accuracy would be direct bolt up to hub vs the tires pushing rollers (different tires slip different amounts, right?)

Coming off a roller dyno might happen with a 1000hp Buick GN or something with sick power like that, but for some reason I have a hard time envisioning an Impreza making enough power to hop off. :)

Well, I would HOPE that anything we have around here wouldn't come off the dyno, but there is always operator error. I guess the biggest thing is the noise of the drum dynos.

IIRC, the dyno Todd is going to invest with is the dynapak dyno. It's more of a tuner's dyno, because it reads the car's power in tiny increments (such as every 10 rpm). That way, there aren't any flat spots the tuner, Todd, can miss. ;)

i dont know how much dyno tuning todd has done himself, but i can tell you that the guys at RS when i talked to them didnt know a thing about subarus, therefore i will not be going there. also their shop is pretty run down as well. they may end up doing great work but my initial impression was not that great.

when is Todd actually receiving the dyno?

Well, the owner of Hi-Performance Art suggested I start a list of people most interested. It looks like mid March for a delivery date. (assuming the financing comes through). So, who wants to be the first?

I don't need to be the FIRST, because my car is running pretty well. But I wouldn't mind being on the list of beta testers, as it were. Besides, Russ and I will probably need to spend some time showing you the ins and outs of the UTEC. :)

um, ill be first if no one has used it by May;)

i'll def be using it though, once i make my headers im gonna need a dyno graph of how well i can design and build:D

No "Tuning" yet. I have more to learn.
I want to start with single or double power runs (one simple change).

I'm always up for being a test mule, besides, I still have a turbo waiting to go in.

Well I should call you sometime soon then Todd. Mr. Tax Man was very nice to me this year compared to what I had anticipated. So would could do the following once I order the goodies in the next couple of weeks:

Before: VF23, STI inj, Walbro, uppipe, Samco IC hoses, Prodrive muffler

After: all that stuff above, PLUS TurboXS stealthback

    :D

    Yeah. Works fine.

To be more clear, since multiple people have been anywhere from surprised to flabbergasted that I got a bigger turbo before an exhaust...

The turbo was outrageously cheap, a private party deal I couldn't pass up. Exhaust would have followed but for the fact that I got laid off.

Well who knows exactly how much, but yes, it will be a huge improvement in torque and lower the RPM where I achieve positive manifold pressure. :)

Oh yeah, it'll sound sweet as hell too.
